Norton internet security (and/or windows defender) seems to be blocking my canon MyCamera software from starting when I connect the camera to the PC with the USB cable.
Norton reports "unauthorized access blocked open process token" and asserts that c:\program files\ windows defender\msmpeng.exe is the actor. Strangely it doesn't mention the canon software - it just stops it running.
Has recently started happening on both our computers within a day or so of each other - suggests a recent update to Norton or Windows Defender?
Help!
Hi,
If you use another anti virus/spy program like Norton Antivirus which i suspect you are as you are using Norton Internet Security then you may not need Windows Defender running at all. If you think that Windows Defender is the culprit stopping your Canon application from running then why don't you stop Defender from running.
Open the Windows Defender program, click on Tools->Options, select Administrator
Options, and uncheck the "Use Windows Defender box". Confirm that you do
indeed want to do this, click Close.
Restart your computer and try running the Canon application to see if it has helped.
If it has then all's well, if you want to run Windows Defender again just follow the above steps and re-check the "Use Windows Defender" box again.
If this does not work please post back.
Good luck.
Testimonial: "Makes sense to not have both Defender and Norton Internet Security running at same time-so did that. However, didn't fix the problem."
Hi,
Thanks for the feed back.
Try this to see if this works>>>>>>
Double-click the Norton Internet Security icon.
Double-click Personal Firewall.
On the Programs tab, select the program that you want to unblock in the Manual Program Control window.
Click Remove.
Click OK to any warning messages.
If there are other components of the program that appear in the list, remove them as well.
Click OK.
Close Norton Internet Security.
Clear the cache in Internet Explorer
Start Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Click Delete Cookies.
When you see the prompt "Delete all cookies in the Temporary Internet File folder?," click OK.
Click Clear History.
When you see the prompt "Are you sure you want Windows to delete your history of visited Web sites?," click Yes.
Click OK.
Lets see if this works for you.
Good luck

"For some reason the Canon service does not start automatically on some Windows XP systems. Right-click on "My Computer" elect manage. In the computer management console which opns select "Services and Applications" in the right hand frame by double-clicking it. Double click on "Services" probably the first item in the right hand frame. Scroll down to the service named "Canon Access Library 8", right click on it and select start. "
Startup of the Canon service was set to automatic on my PC but for some reason the service was STOPPED. I just had to start it!
