It sounds like the application that is opening the file does not support the file extension you are opening.

Download the file and save it rather than open. Once file is done downloading, right click it as select "open with". Pick the correct program to read it and it should be readable.

If you are unsure of what program to use to open it, google the file extension.

Error 25090.office setup encountered a problem with the office source engine. system error..-2147024894. please open C..\program files\microsoft office\OFFICE

To fix it, put in your Office 2003 or Office 2007 CD into your drive and wait for the setup program to start. If it doesn't start automatically, find the Setup.exe file on the CD and run it manually. Once the setup window appears, just click Cancel. Click OK to whatever prompts come up after you click Cancel.
That's it! Loading the setup screen fixes the corrupt setup files and allows you to open an Office program without the 25090 error!

Since installing windows8, I cannot connect to the Internet via Desktop, I have to go through Mozilla Firefox???

I am hoping that you meant "windows 7" and not windows 8, as there is no such thing as windows 8, only windows 7 premature builds.
You could never connect to the internet via desktop. Mozilla firefox is an internet browser, just as microsoft internet explorer is an internet browser.
You can configure which browser is automatically brought up by opening internet explorer (Start>Internet Explorer) and selecting "use this browser as my default browser".

I am receiving word documents via email and when I open or save them they are saving as docx file types and opening with symbols instead of text. Im not sure what to do as this has never happened before,...

You need to open these files with a newer version of Word.

I use a program called OpenOffice

www.openoffice.org

It's a free open-source version of Microsoft Office and can open docx files.

Good luck!

Getting "Unspecified Error" While Opening an Excel File by using OLEDB Connection. I am Using Follwing Code to Open the Excel File. string connectionString = @"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data...

Hello, you are probably using an incorrect connection string.

Usually you can use a datasource (such as Access Database) directly in an excel document. If that is what you are trying to accomplish here check out the following sites:
Plug into your data Connecting Excel to an Access database Office Blogs
OR:
Connect an Access database to your workbook

If you are writing software application, from within Visual Studio (depending on the version) go to the left-hand side bar to "Server Explorer" -> "Add Data Connection" -> Click on the "Change" button of the Data Source part and select the appropriate Access Data Source -> Click the "Advanced" button.

After that, you will see in the bottom textbox, the appropriate connection string for the JET.OLEDB Connection Provider.

This is shown in the image below:

For usage of an oledb connection object you can find info here --> https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.data.oledb.oledbconnection(v=vs.110).aspx
