I plug in my charger and the camera shuts down, including the time. I unplug the charger and the time returns. I cannot charge the battery or run the camera with the charger plugged in. The camera and charger has been working perfectly.

Try cleaning the contacts with a pencil eraser, this works best.

Disconnect the charger from the Camcorder and remove the battery.
Next, clean the metal contact of the battery and the battery compartment.

Then, insert the Battery in the Camcorder and turn it ON then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

After resetting the Camcorder to the default settings, connect the AC adaptor to check its operation.

If the issue persists then the DC in jack requires to be serviced.

Why is my nikon coolpix L20 battery exhausted even with new batteries

If you are using rechargeable batteries, It could be that your camera's battery charger circuit is defective. If your camera is out of warranty, the cheap solution would be to buy an external charger. Another possibility is that a short circuit or defective electronic component is drawing excessive current and draining your batteries. If that is the case, you will need to have your camera repaired. Nikon USA Repair Depot's number is 1-800-645-6687 9AM-8PM EST, Monday to Friday. They will tell you how to return your camera for repair and they will give you a free estimate if it is out of warranty.

Sony vaio PCG-7142L keeps freezing

Can check if the battery is low ... or is not (or cannot) holding a good charge ... when you unplug it (from the charger) ... when this happens ?

If that is the case, it may "freeze" while it is busy trying to store the contents of your memory before it shuts down (or hibernates). Does it shut down (or goes into hibernate if you let it continue to "freeze") for a while ? If so, then it's your battery.

If the battery doesn't hold a good charge, the laptop will run only a short time (while unplugged) before it has to shut down due to low battery. And if this is the case, consider getting a replacement (new) battery. And follow the initial charging instructions (for a new battery) to lengthen the life of the battery.

Joe See my tips on charging batteries No you don't have to leave the chair on when charging. Charge overnite after using it during the day. Always have the charger off when plugging it into the chair and unplugging from the chair. The charger you have doesn't have an on/off switch so get a power strip with the on/off switch, plug that into the wall and plug your charger into the strip use the switch on the strip to turn the charger on and off this will save you having to plug and unplug the charger rom the wall. Always store or put the chair up fully charged. If you don't use the cair daily charge at least once a week. It takes 9-10 chargings to get the batteries operating at 100% so use the chair and charge overnight while you sleep Never leave the charger on the chair more than 12 hours Hope this helps you

Ifthe laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be wornout. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cyclesand will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up atall. ORThe battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected thebattery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. Ifthe battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to bereplaced.

I have a Olympus FE 4000. I purchased it this past year and it worked fine for a while but all of a sudden my camera shut down. I though the battery simply needed charging so i charged it. when i put it...

Yes, it's possible. Rechargeable batteries don't last forever. Lithium batteries in particular can fail early if they are allowed to become totally discharged.

The best way to proceed is to buy a new battery, then try to charge it. If it charges and the camera works, problem solved.

If it doesn't charge, then you will need a new charger. The battery will not be wasted though, as it is always handy to have a spare.

If having bought both new battery and new charger you camera still won't work, then you will have to look into your warranty or return it to the shop- however that works in your country.

It is possible to check the voltage of the battery with a meter (you can buy a general purpose multi-meter cheaply) but this takes a modicum of skill and interpretation. Even a run down battery may show some voltage on a meter, as it doesn't draw much current.

Battery charger won't charge

Hi,
I'm sorry to say I don't know much about Olympus digital cameras, I've never had one on the bench.
I would take your camera and charger to a shop that sells Olympus batteries try a different battery first, this way you can try it out before you buy and make sure the camera and charger are working ok...

The battery is a Li-Ion, when these get flattened too far they shut down and will refuse to charge, they can sometimes be recovered by using a power supply to lift them but you must be very careful (use a 300ma wall wart at just over the rated voltage of the battery for 10 mins then put it back in the charger) as they can catch fire if over charged, shorted or connected backwards also if its been so flat it refuses to charge its certainly past its best and should be replaced as its likely it will let you down again.

On the other hand it could be the charger, so best to try and check out both before buying anything.
If it happened very suddenly and the battery was still able to run the camera for quite a while I would think a charger problem is more likely, if the battery has been taking less time to charge recently and lasting shorter times its more likely the battery..
Having said that the protection circuits can shut down a seemingly good battery for other reasons.

If you find its the charger third party (non Olimpus) chargers are available quite cheaply on ebay as are batteries

Best of luck
