My Dell Vostro 1000 laptop keyboard (right side) keys are not typing what I type. It is like they are out of sync. Can you help? (I am currently using a different computer to type this.

You are using a keyboard layout (software) that does not match your keyboard (hardware).
For example, if your keyboard is made for typing German, but you have activated a layout for typing English, the @ is not on Ctrl-Alt-Q where you expect it to be, but on Shift-2.

Solution 1: activate a keyboard layout matching your keyboard.
Solution 2: get used to the non-matching layout :-) There is a built-in utility to show a virtual keyboard onscreen. That will make it easier to find out how to type the various special characters.

Only Dell will be able to supply a replacement Dell motherboard.
Telephone Dell, and ask for Technical Support, to find the part-number and the (HIGH!) cost.

This is ****. Respondent doesn't know the model in question and his suggestion is of no help--there is no "blue lock" graphic imprinted anywhere on the Vostro 1000 keyboard. A user with this sort of question is already frustrated and does not need his desperation exacerbated by a nonsensical response from someone calling himself "RescueTech".
The user, on the other hand, may be excused for believing the problem is a locked Fn key--Dell does you no favours by printing the alternate number labelling in blue, AND the problem is reversed as long as the Fn key is held down--but the actual culprit is Num Lk. You'll find it on the top-most row, five keys from the upper-right-hand corner. Press it once and your problem will vanish.

try using the on screen keyboard which is available at Start -- All Programs-- Accesories-- Accessibilty -- Onscreen Keyboard..once u r there u can click off the num key from the onscreen keyboard.
