Upon rebooting the computer of our gateway, windows 98 xp media will not load,,, we receive a black screen that describes: We apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. etc.. and it continues to loop over and over again without properly loading windows.. regardless of highlighting START WINDOWS NORMALLY or LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION

In bios you need to change the boot sequence making your DVD drive 1st on the list. Once you do this save & exit. Then put the setup dvd in & reboot. Good luck & hope this helps you out.

Yes your asking too much of it,

An old system cannot keep up with all the memory intensive programmes and the processor will not cycle the information fast enough for you

This is why it is slow
add more ram, bigger hard disk drive too will help
if you can
delete anything off it you can too
increase the page file size,
will help

Gateway laptop mx3414-black screen cannot load windows

Try going into safe mode upon startup by hitting the F8 button. If it does then hit safe mode to get into your computer. Go to start>accessories>system tools>system restore. Follow the wizard to restore your computer to a date earlier than when you started having problems. Let me know if you have any problems or questions.

It appears that you are using Windows 98 as your operating system, if this is the case it is not compatible with the newer Ipod software. The new Ipod's require at least Windows XP service pack 2, Vista, or newest Mac software.
