Are you do firmware?
In most case when I do firmware upgrade with pioneer DVD, I can´t fix the problem.
Now you have trouble with chip on your DVD burner, the best solution is bay another, because you can´t try again firmware upgrade.
Only what you can do with dvd or cd rom is cleaning or change a laser, but you have diferent trouble.
Are you burning the files with a DVD+R format. Use DVD-R. Not all players will recognize DVD+R. Also, check the region that the movies are made in and see if the player can be switched to that region. Also, are you trying to burn files larger than 700 MB. If you are, in creating an iso image or copy if you are downloading the file you have to match the checksum of the original file to the downloaded one.

your dvd only writes to dvd-r and dvd-rw, but writes to both cdr + and - r/rw.
To confirm it go into nero tools and nero info tools and all the ticks in the boxes are what your drive supports
