Judy, you really do need to provide a lot more information when you post on here. Make, model, year, and exactly what the problem is and what help you are looking for.

The more you provide, the better the answer will be.

Why does cold water mix with the hot when the switch is set on hot

Depending on the age of the unit you may be looking at a faulty switch. Sometimes the contacts for the cold water solonoid on the switch may be fused shut and therefore you will always get cold water no mater what you select. If hot water is what you need the easy way to do this is select hot water and close the tap for the cold water until needed again. Hope this helps

There is a hot water valve & a cold water valve on the Dexter T300 machines but it is a 2 coil valve. does the hot water valve supply only hot water or does one side provide water to perhaps the...

supplies hot water when needed, cold water when needed. and then warm water when needed. so the second coil is for warm water. it basically mixes the hot and cold water.

How does rhe hot and cold water hook up on a 71-40d which is which top and bottom

Tanks are marked with Hot and Cold.
1) If water connections are on top of tank, look for red marking or word HOT that shows where hot water pipe connects. Look for blue marking or word COLD that shows cold water connection.
2) If water connections are on side of tank, cold water connects to bottom one, and hot connects to top.

3) If hot and cold are reversed, the tank will not work.
Pipes on top of tank: cold water enters tank and is sent to bottom of tank in a long tube called the dip tube. This means the cold is on the bottom since hot water rises to the top. The hot water exits top of tank.
Pipes on side of tank: You want cold water to enter bottom, so hot water naturally rises to the top outlet.

Our washing machine is putting out hot water when the temprature setting is on cold ...and cold water when it is on hot. All rinses are hot. What part could be bad?

The water temperature is incorrect The temperature of the incoming water determines the temperature of the water in your washer. You get either hot, cold, or a mix of the hot and cold water that's currently available to the machine. So if the cold water that enters the machine is very cold--or if the hot water entering the machine is very hot--the warm water is affected. If you live in a Northern climate, unless you adjust the hot and cold water taps that supply water to your washer, the warm water supplied to your washer is usually hotter during the summer months and colder during the winter months.

Maytag Performa wont fill hot water

The water fill valve - The water fill valve is a mechanical and electrical part, the coils on the valve need electricity to mechanically open the valve to allow the water to flow into the washer....myth....the washer pumps water into itself...no, it does not. The fill valve opens and the house water pressure pushes the water into the washing machine.
No cold water or no hot water - The fill valve has two coils, one for the hot water and one for the cold water. It is possible that one of the coils can fail and you loose that filling ability. If the cold water coil quits, the hot will still work and during warm fill you will get hot water only and during a cold fill you will get no water at all. If the hot coils quits, you will still have cold water fill, cold water only on a warm setting and no water on a hot fill setting. You can No cold water or no hot water - The fill valve has two coils, one for the hot water and one for the cold water. You can test a fill valve live for 120 volts, power to a fill valve coil and no fill = a bad fill valve. You can also test the coils for continuity, no continuity = a bad fill valve. Some Maytag washers have a fuse in the fill valve circuit, if this fuse let go the washer will not fill. Fill valves can also from time to time stick open and not stop filling. If you have to shut off the fill valves to stop the water from filling in the washer, you have a bad fill valve and you will have to replace it.

No cold water, Only hot water in showers.

The plumbers screwed up when they installed your showers. There are two connections on each shower. one for hot and one for cold. they connected the two hot water lines together with a T fitting and then ran a line to the main hot water line and tied it in. Then they connected the two cold water fittings with a T and ran that line to the main hot water line and tied it in there instead of into a cold water line like they were suppose to. This is the only possible logical solution to this problem. They tied your cold water connections to both showers into a hot water line instead of a cold water line.

Kenmore front load washer: no cold water problem

that's odd.

if you choose cold/cold then check your hose orientation. you could have put the hot water to the cold solenoid.
or the wires have been interchange, the hot water wire was plug to the cold solenoid and the cold water wire was plug to the hot water solenoid.
or hot water is still flowing to your cold water line.

if the cold water solenoid is the problem, then there should be no water at all going to the tub.

try to experiment, try to switch to hot/hot and see what would come out...

Maytag washer

It sounds like you have the hot and cold water lines to the washer reversed.  Try turning off the tap for the hot water then setting the washer to just cold wash and then  hot washif you get nothing on the cold and cold water when set to hot they are probably reversed.  Typically if the auto-temp control is broken you will only get hot or cold coming out on any setting.
