Kenmore Model 385.16231300

Hi,
Apparently google has not heard too much about my machine. I have a problem with my bobbin thread. I have been sewing on this machine for a few years now and have always had a tiny bit of bobbin problem. I am now trying to sew a hem to denim and my bobbin tension is nonexistant.

My manual says to adjust the bobbin treading mess with the tension on my top stitch. That is not helping too much. There is not bobbin casing to adjust the tension and my manual does not show how to properly place the bobbin. My guess is that I am not laying out the thread properly when I put the bobbin in. I can't find any pictures on how this should look.

Please help,

Jodi

I discovered the same problem. What I figured out (after having the machine "repaired" several times) is that it seems as if the bobbin type may be the suspect. I started looking closely and it seems as if I have 2 different types of bobbins. So, I tried both types. Since I don't know the bobbin number(s), you will have to put up with my description .... the bobbin that is flat, top & bottom, seems to bunch up. The bobbin "bounces" when I sew. The bobbins that are rounded on the top and bottom don't seem to "bounce" and it doesn't bunch up the lower thread. Now, I have read my manual front to back and it does not say what bobbin type or number to use. So, if anyone knows, it would be a great help. I am assuming the correct bobbin is the "class 66" bobbin. Does anyone know for sure?

Well, after trying many solutions, I think I figured it out. I called the Sears parts phone number, it's listed in the manual, and ordered their bobbins. It is not as convenient as picking them up at the fabric store, but since I have changed all of my bobbins over to the "official/recommended" bobbins, I have not has this problem again. I have been working on many different types of fabric, from sheers to a heavy plastic outdoor table cloth fabric. I have not had the problem reoccur. I dislike the fact that Kenmore does not state, in their manual, that their bobbins are the only ones that will work properly. Good luck everyone!

How do I refill the thread bobbin on a Kenmore sewing maching,,model 148-19371

You can try a couple of YouTube videos:

Loading thread on the bobbin old Kenmore sewing machine
(do not wind the bobbin as fast as he does as it tends to stretch the thread and also could cause the spool to fly off the machine!)

Kenmore bobbin issues

try these suggestions
Bobbin thread breaks
1. There is a right way & wrong way to insert the bobbin in the case --when you insert the bobbin in if it doesn't stitch correctly turn the bobbin over see if that helps or bobbin case is not inserted correctly
2. Lint has collected in the bobbin holder
3. The bobbin is damaged & doesn't turn smoothly
4. Lower thread tension is two tight

How do you thread a kenmore sewing machine I can't figure out how to thread the bobbin for kenmore machine 1385.15343600.  I am a beginner, so I will need pretty detailed instructions. Thanks! Jenny

Put the bobbin on the short metal stick on top of the machine. Unthread the machine. Put the spool of thread on the tall, left side stick on top of the machine. Take the thread and wrap it counter clockwise around the circular, short, metal thing on the left side of the top of the machine, only 180 degrees. Thread the thread through the hole in the bobbin (which should be on top). Press the bobbin to the right, into the little white thing. Pull the turning wheel on the right side of the machine out. While holding the end of the thread, softly press the presser foot so that the thread goes around the bobbin a few times. After that, cut the end down to the bobbin. Now, press the presser foot down and wind the bobbin until it stops on it's own.

Bobbin wont catch

Try flipping the bobbin. The thread must come off in a certain direction to work properly.

Problem of pulling the thread up from the bobbin place

I will be happy to resolve a tension issue with this machine but I need more information. I'm not sur ewhat you mean "hold the bobbin thread up well"

Manual can be ordered at www.sears.com or google kenmore owner's manuals and there are sites that you can download. I don't of any free ones though.
