Bridge router

1. Use both the Modem and the router as NAT routers. Do this by making your router a DMZ node on your modem, that way ALL traffic will pass to the router, then set up port forwarding etc on the router.

2. Run the router/modem in bridge mode (recommended). You need to set the modem to run in bridge mode, check the user manual for refrences to bridging. Then set the router to connect to PPPoE using a username and password.

Need to change my modem, AT&T supported to full bridge mode for my Cisco router. AT&T does not support full bridge mode and will not advise. Can you help?

Well I am wondering why you are persisiting with an ISP that does not support full bridge mode. It is most common and Cisco routers are many throughout the USA GB AU and many other places. Perhaps its time to select an ISP that does support it rather than getting a new modem that your Internet source does not support.

Any problems that arise with the new modem will land you right back in a no go situation. Good luck!

I have a Linksys WRT54G router. The power went out the other day and I haven't been able to establish a connection since. I can connect when I run cable from the modem to the cpu, but not if I try using...

what is the model of your modem? if you said that you are able to get online when your computer is hooked up to the modem only, then it indicatest that your modem is not yet in bridge mode. Putting it in bridge mode will make your modem a "pass through" device thereby causing no conflicts in asking for ip add/connecting to your ISP. when your modem is in bridge mode, you should not be able to get online.
after setting your modem to bridge mode, connect your linksys router. if you have a pppoe connection, or one that uses username and password, have that set up in your linksys router. at this point, your router will be the one to ask ip adds from your ISP.
you could also visit this site, http://www-ph.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C1&childpagename=PH/Layout&cid=1166859677881&pagename=Linksys/Common/VisitorWrapper&lid=7788193882H13, for further configuration of your router. as for your modem, try to call your ISP on how to set your modem to bridge.

Netgear wgr614 v6 As Bridge for XBOX

I'll take a stab at this. It's a bit difficult because I don't know what your level of expertise is. You're actually using the Netgear wireless ROUTER not a bridge. Your ISP can use a couple of methods to give you service. DSL companies like Verizon probably use PPPoE which require you to login and provide a password and VZ is notorious for closing down port 25.

O.K. Did I mention I don't like them very much? Anyway, I'm going to give you a link to Netgear's excellent web site for configuring a router and the XBOX connection. This is the whole list of v6 compatible instructions. Note the very bottom link to use Netgear routers with XBOX.

http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/wgr614v6.asp

Note under the Troubleshooting topic that there is a configuration and two setup files, depending on what you're connecting to, and some tips on what to do if it doesn't work.

It's not as bad as it looks.

How to put dsl-320T in full bridge mode?

You could install Router Techs firmware on your modem www.routertech.org and it would give you the option to put the modem in full bridge mode. However I'm not sure the hardware on the modem fully supports it. You might have to use half bridge mode and let your router do the DHCP.

Can't get Trendnet TEW-432 router to connect to internet with motorola modem

I had this same problem. I was going to go ahead and call ATT and ask them to put my modem into bridge mode, but I messed around a bit more....

I went ahead and turn on PPPoE...tried to run the set up again. Well it worked. Not the internet connection is working through the modem. For some reason, the setup changed PPPoE back to DHCP Client, but it's working now. Give this a shot before calling ATT if you like. Good luck.

upgraded the latest firmware in the router, reset your router and reconfigure it, check if your dsl modem is configured in a bridge mode if not configure your modem in bridge mode and reconfig your links router accordingly, that will fix your problem
