Question about Smith Corona Office Equipment & Supplies
SOURCE: Smith Corona Typewriter SL460:
The Lock button might be stuck. If someone was typing too fast, I believe it can "Overload". You may have to dis-assemble to see if button is stuck. I worked on one of these a while back.

I'm a bit confused on this one. I have a XL 1000 and it has no display. How can it "say" it's locked? Some of the Smith Coronas have a printhead lock to keep it from being damaged in transport, but not this model. Need more info.

there is a KB ON/KB OFF switch on the right side of the keyboard, it should be in the ON position
also on the left side the switch should be in the TYPE position
if that doesn't make it work, there is a problem with the main board or power supply that will need a visit to a repair shop

The linespace selector lever is probably at zero 0
try moving it to 1 1 1/2 or 2. There is also a detent lever that releases the ratchet of the roller. You should feel a bumping when you move the roller wheel.
