My generator wont start. I have cleaned the spark plug. What should the gap be ?

it could be the spark plugs are to long and the piston is hitting the glug

After removing the carb, disassembling and blowing it out (twice) to no avail, got a one gallon can of Gunk Parts and Carburetor dip. Removed the carburetor (again), removed float bowl cover, gasket, float, and needle valve and soaked it in the cleaner for several hours. Blew it out (again) and reinstalled it. Now generator starts on first pull like new!

I have a Robin but they all are pretty much the same for plug gap and tappets. I worked in a lawnmower small engine repair shop for many years in San Diego
I set them all the same and never had one return. I just did mine a couple of months ago and hand lapped the intake and exhaust valve seats. Starts first time everytime like the 7.5 year old unit is new!!!

Make sure you have flow from the tank to the carburetor. Also, when you cleaned the carburetor, there are several jets that have to be open in order for the fuel to "flow" through the carburetor. The carburetor on this generator has a pilot jet located on the top side of the carburetor and a main metering jet that screws into the very bottom of the carburetor and will be visible when the bowl is removed. After the main jet is removed there is a main nozzle that also has holes in it that have to be open also.

Another problem that is possible is compression. If the engine does not have sufficient compression it will not "pull" the fuel into the combustion chamber on the intake stroke. Hope this helps to get you in the right direction.

I know the engine replacement part number is: 309591038..... BUT, I do not know what engine this is. There is an ENGINE number some where on this engine that I need to help you. Usually it is not to far from the oil dip stick area on the base of the engine. If you would plese pass me the engine number so I can help you.

My E25GR has no spark and dose not start?

is it a petrol generator is spark plug clean between the gap and connected to cable. Could be a fuel issue some generators have a valve that needs to be turned to let fuel through to generator.

Won't start. Replaced carburetor at first because it wasn't getting gas, then it wasn't getting spark at the spark plug, so I replaced the coil and it still won't start. I don't know what the gap is...

Make sure you use a new spark plug. If it has points, the thickness of a match book usually works, and cleans the points at the same time.

I have a yamaha generator and it will not start/electric start or pull also will not start

If it was left unused for a few months with fuel in it the fuel forms a gel in the carburettor and may have blocked jets. Try the solution below:
First to check that the plug is sparking;

Remove the spark-plug
Push it into the HT lead, the lead that normally is pressed onto the top of the plug, and rest it with the metal part of the plug against the metal of the generator
Pull the start cord and see if the plug sparks.

If it does the problem is with the fuel. If it doesn't try replacing the plug.

Assuming that the plug sparks alright pour about 5ml, 1 teaspoon, of fuel into the opening where you took the spark-plug out of.
Dip the end of the spark-plug in fuel so the spark gap is wet and replace the plug in the generator.
Try starting the generator

The fuel you poured into the spark-plug opening should burn causing the generator to start. The procedure may have to be repeated 2 to 3 times.

If there was fuel left for a few months in the generator and it has formed gel in the carburettor this procedure may not work. If this happens the only solution is to have the carburettor stripped down and the jets cleaned by a mechanic.

It wont fire up i used sandpaper to clean it and still wont fire up no spark eaither but spark plug sarts on a lawn mower but its a pockit mini bike

Sandpaper makes a poor cleaner for spark plugs. The critical point is the condition of the inner insulator--if black and oily, it will tend to shunt the spark over the insulator instead of jumping the electrode gap. The problem that you are having seems to centered around the spark generating apparatus. If it is a self-contained module, check the module pole gap with a thin business card for a gauge. Rotate the flywheel magnets under/over the module, insert the card into the gap and loosen the module mounting screws to allow the magnets to contact the module, then re-tighten the screws. Rotate the flywheel somewhat to remove the card and recheck for spark. If still nothing, you may need to replace the module. Hope this helps!

Make sure the muffler has not become plugged. Check the flywheel key as it may have sheared off for some reason causing the timing to be off, yet still generate sparks. Are the sparks blue and snappy? If not, check the ignition module gap to the flywheel magnets--use a thin business card for a gauge. A wide gap can cause weak spark. Hope this gets you running again!

New spark plug, carb cleaned, new gas.....won't start......could it be the coil?

First check the surface between the rotor and the coil and make sure there is no rust. If there is take some fine emery cloth remove the rust from both the rotor and coil. Use a noncondutive cleaner to remove any metal particals. If you remove the coil you can use a standard business card to reset the gap.
After completing this process if it still does not start check the plug and make sure you have a spark in the plug gap. You can test it by removing the plug and reattach the plug wire then lay the plug on the head and try starting the engine. The spark should be a bright blue. If you do not have any spark recheck the plug gap. If the spark is a red color your coil is weak and needs to be replaced.

Is the battery charged? If not charge the battery and try it again. Generally most gasoline engines will start and run when these conditions are met:

1. good spark. If the spark plug is old, buy a replacement being sure to get the right plug. Then make sure the spark plug is gapped properly.

2. New fuel. If the fuel has been in the tank for more than two months replace it with new gasoline.

3. Air supply. Take a look at the air cleaner. If it is dirty clean it or replace it.
