Black screen When my laptop stays idle for to long the screen goes blank. I have tried rebooting, unplugging everything I can think of. The computer turns on fine and even sounds like it is working on CDs but the screen stays blank. HELP ME!!

1. Restart the computer.
2. As the computer boots, press <F12>
3. when the Dell Splash Screen appears.
4. At the One Time Boot menu, press the <Down> arrow key to highlight Diagnostics and press <enter>
5. A graphical menu listing all discovered devices in the system is now displayed and the express diagnostics should run (Takes about 4 minutes).

This will test the hardware on your computer.
I am thinking it could be the battery but this is just to be sure.

try to restore to factory setup use the f12+CTRL or f11 , restar the computer and HOLD the CTRL+f12 or f11

Shut down, unplug, remove battery, plug in, reboot. If it reboots, open Control Panel, Power Options, Advanced power settings, Change Sleep and Hibernate to Never. Adjust the settings to your preference. Set the Screen Saver time. When your laptop is not in use shut it down and unplug, this will prolong life and a reboot everyday will reset your laptop.

I think you should replace it. But if you can't or don't want to you don't have to. I think it haves a power reverse in it and it got hit or damaged from electricity. That could make your computer send files and things like that. It can send them to you, The internet, and even on a near by computers screen. try repair.

I have one doing exactly this at the moment. It had gone to sleep and the fans were going like crazy. I think it is a Motherboard failure (it happened with many G5 iMacs), this one has been replaced once already, and I can't actually get it to install anything. I'm taking it apart tomorrow to see what I can find inside. If I fond anything I'll let you know.

gateway w350a T-series HDMI power on but screen stays blank...Its just a black screen. Is there a fix for this?

try to desconnect or unplug your hard drive, if you see a black screen with a bunch of white letters, you hard drive is crashed, if not try to conect a second monitor (external) tru you vga connector, if work fine you have a lcd problem===>>>reemplace asap.

have you got a bootable cd or recovery cd , boot from it and do a fresh installation, i think your windows has got corrupt

Quite possible that the machine is defaulting to external display only. Check your BIOS for this and try any function keys/switches that are available.

I think your laptop might be stuck in SUSPEND mode. Try unplugging the power and removing the battery and waiting five minutes, and then plugging it back in. If this does not work, try holding down the power button for ten seconds at a time and rebooting.
