My garbage disposal is not working. Making humming sound when turned on. I tried to press the red reset button but to no avail. Also tried to turn the little dosposal wrench in bottom hole of disposal but that didn't work. Turned it back on after trying both but still just makes quiet hum. what's wrong? Sincerely, Not Mrs. fix-it.

I was wondering, since this is related, does the stuff you put down your disposal ever make it to the garbage dump, or does it go out to the ocean?

It is most likely plugged up there is a clap with a butterfly bolt that you turn counter clockwise remove the clamp and have a trash can under it and wiggle it to remove the lower half of the disposal, when it comes off dump it out and clean with fresh water. Then with hands free of the pump turn the disposal back on, it if still hums the motor is bad and you will have to replace..

I just came home after being out of town for several months and my garbage disposal just hummed. I tried the reset button. One thing that I tried (that I read else where) was to put a broomstick in it and bang it a fe times (with it off of course). I worked like a charm!

Sounds like the motor is shot. Generally if the motor will turn then there is not much you can do. Check the warranty on the unit. Warranty varies from one year to 10 years. If it is over ten years old * would just replace it.

My garbage disposal is not working' only humming sound, no action. I'm not sure if I found the reset button. A red plastic, could be a button, on the bottom of my Badger was moved around, not so much...

There is a wrench that came with your disposal. It is about 1/4" and has six sides. Be sure it is turned off. Insert it in the bottom in the middle and move back and forth a few times. Remove it turn on the water and try again. If it hums repeat. If no noise press reset, otherwise it is working.

Disposer is making a humming sound.

If your disposal is humming but not grinding then shut unit off and use a 1/4 allen wrench in the opening on the bottom of disposal in the center and turn it back and forth with the wrench till you get it freed up. There should be a offset wrench that came with the disposal for this purpose but if you don't have it a regular allen wrench will work. Try running hot water thru disposal while you are turning with allen wrench to help loosen up grease. After you get it turning freely remove allen wrench and turn disposal on . Hopefully this will take care of it but if not repeat until it frees up.
If your unit stops look on the bottom of the disposal for a small red button. This is a reset button. Push it and see if it will run. Hope this helps you. Thanks and have a good year.

Describe how to use the garbage disposer- currently it doesnot work- humming sound, no grinding

Look on the bottom of garbage dosposal in the center you will see a allen type fiitting. I believe it takes a 5/16 inch allen wrench to fit it.Insert proper size allen wrench and turn it manually back and forth. It sounds to me like you have something in there that that is not allowing it to turn. By using the allen wrench to turn impeller you should be ably to free it up.Sometimes it helps to run very hot water thru it as you are trying to frree it up. If you can get it turning freely with wrench remove wrench and turn disposal on. If it still is not free try above procedure again. If it trys to start and stops buzzimg look closely at bottom of disposal there will be a small red button. This is a reset switch. Push it in and continue trying to free blockage. Hope this helps you. Thanks

Dear Sir/Madam, The garbage disposal does not start after I turn it on (no sound at all). I tried to press the red reset button on the bottom. After that, I hear the humming sound after power on but...

Something has it clogged. Look on the bottom of the disposal. If there is an exposed end of the shaft, you can use channel locks, vice grips or a wrench to try and spin the shaft. Be sure the power is disconnected to the disposal while doing this. The shaft should free up. You may have to turn the shaft a short distance in both directions to completely free the motor. If the motor doesn't free up, there is something of substantial size hung in the blades and the motor will have to be removed to be serviced or replaced.

My garbage disposal doesn't turn on, I checked the plug and it works. What do you think is the problem?

Every disposal I've seen or installed has had a RESET button. If there is no sound at all when you switch the unit ON, look/feel around the bottom of the unit for a small button (usually RED). Press the button in, and then try the switch again.

If the unit makes a humming sound when switched on, something is binding the mechanism and preventing the blades from spinning. If this is the case, unplug the unit and then spin it to remove blockage and free the blade mechanism. If the unit came with a large allen wrench, you can insert it in the bottom of the unit and turn it to free the blades. No wrench, no problem. Insert a small piece of pipe, a pipe wrench handle, or (my favotite) a 3/8 or 1/2 inch socket extension bar into the top of unit and turn the blade assembly until it spins freely. Once the blade assembly is freed, the unit should operate normally.

Garbage disposal hum

Hi, Hit the reset again. It sounds like the cutter is lacked up some way. Try using a long wooden spoon ar something simular and see if you ca free up the cutter. If the cutter is free and it still will not work, you will probably need a new disposal. If you are getting no noise after you hit the reset, chack your breakers to make sure there is power to the unit. I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.
