Question about Samsung Televison & Video

1 Answer

Good day... I have a 40" Samsung LED TV that is malfunctioning. It comes on and if all of the lights are off and the room is completely dark, I can see what is on the screen, rather clearly. I have checked all three (main) boards in the set and none show any obvious signs of failure. The power board has a slight warp in it but nothing else seems to be wrong with it. I have read that with issues similar to mine, the T-Con board is shot, however, while I can hold my own when it comes to replacing parts in electronics, I am not a pro. Without actually looking at the set, is there anything I can tell you or do for you that would identify the issue? Thanks in advance for your time!

Sounds like the backlight led inverter board is bad. Easy to replace. Google for replacement board.

SOURCE: Samsung TV Model LA40A650A1M back light intermittently strobeing

You can't see if a cap is good or bad jus looking at them they have to be measured>They loose their capacitance because they dry overtime.
I do sugest that you replace you power supply module or replace all caps.Possibily you may have a broken line in the PCB

Samsung TV backlight is very dim on LN40B530P7N Television

Check if the sensor of the ambient light in the room is dirty (bottom of TV). If so, the TV thinks its playing in a dark room and so sets the screen to dim.

If that doesn't improve things, turn a flashlight on the sensor to fool it into thinking its a brighter room.

  1. open back panel (note do not touch any of the Boards and components on them unless you have good knowledge of ESD).
  2. connect TV to power and turn it on in a very dark room. you will now find out what works and what does not.
    1. if you can see white lights on the back of the TV then Back-light is working and visa versa
    2. plug your cable device in with the correct input selected. either AV1/HDMI1 will usually be top of the list now listen for sound
    3. Now while in the dark use a torch or your eyes if you are not in the dark, option 1 comes highly recommended. Look and see if you cant see a feint image of the menu
  1. Now your troubleshooting is completed its time to interpret your results.
    • If 2&3 are a yes and 1 is a no then replace LED Driver. Still persists then the LED strip/LED's are damaged
    • If 1&2 are a yes start by replacing t con board. Still persists replace the main board
    • if the only yes is 1 then you definitely want to change the mainboard
    • Now guess if nothing is on, what is probably the cause?
There is however a much shorter procedure and if you are a logical thinker you will not only learn exactly how LED TV's operate but also how to shorten this solution OR call a guy/girl that has the magic touch
