E91:01 Error - DSC-W50

Hi folks, the E91:01 error is blinking on my DSC-W50. Either the flash is not working or not charging properly. Re-initialize doesnt seem to work and Sony centre says to send away for repair. Camera is over a year old so out of warrenty... cost more than the camera!! Can you please suggest a solution for this problem? Or maybe recommend somewhere I can get my hands on spare parts in Ireland/UK... Any help on this is appreciated

Thanks a mil.

I am having DSC H7. I am getting error E91:01. Because of this the symbol of flash is continously blinking and the flash is not working. I had shown it to the repair center, they are saying that the main special circuit board is out of order and expense for the same will be around Rs. 15000. Is there any solution for this? What will happen If I am using it in the same way without flash?

I have the same problem right now!!! I purchased the camera at Best Buy over a year ago so I have no warranty either. It was working just fine over the weekend and all of the sudden there was an E:91:01 message. Best Buy told me it would cost $100/hour to fix it which 2 hours is already the cost of the camera! Please help!!

This is common problem in the Sony digital cameras.

The quick way to solve it is to reset the camera's internal firmware.
The Sonys have a reset button near or under the battery/ card door. The suggestion is to press the button, close the door and start the camera. Here is a link to the process.
http://www.camerahacker.com
I have not done a reset this way, but it would be interesting to know how you came out on it.
Then you will have to reset from the menu/s all the options including the date and time.

  5. togle down from four times to Initialize
  6. togle across again to the sub-menu
  7. togle up from cancel to OK
  8. press center button to accept the OK choice
  9. Screen changes and so press okay again
  10. It should restart the camera
  11. Opening on the 'Clock Set' screen
  12. togle down to cancel and use the camera and make sure that you have the camera to flash, if it works try again in the Auto function.
  13. If it is still not working do not worry follow the steps again two or three more times, As this is generally a software error message and not a hardware malfunction.
  14. If it is working then don't forget to set your Clock.

E:91:01 in DSC-W80

I can't recall all the Sony error codes off the top of my head, but I believe E:91 is that your flash is not working.

Can you take pictures at all or do you get just the error code? If you can take a picture with the flash off then your flash needs to be replaced.

If you can't use the camera you need to first press the reset button, then reset all camera settings to default.

1-3. PROCESS AFTER FIXING FLASH ERROR
When "FLASH error" (Self-diagnosis Code E : 91 : 01) occurs, to prevent any abnormal situation caused by high voltage, setting of the flash is changed automatically to disabling charge and flash setting. After fixing, this setting needs to be deactivated. Flash error code can be initialized by the operations on the HOME screen.

Method for Initializing the Flash Error Code
Initialize
Initializes the setting to the default setting. Even if you execute this function, the images stored in the internal memory are retained.
1 Select [Initialize] with v/V/b/B, then press z. The message "Initialize all settings" appears. 2 Select [OK] with v, then press z. The settings are reset to the default setting.

To cancel the resetting
Select [Cancel] in step 2, then press z.
· Make sure that the power is not disconnected during resetting.

Hope this helps.

E:91:01

I've had my dsc w50 for about 2.5yrs and its just started the same milarky! Go to menu, set up 1 and re-initialise, it cleared for me then came back again. Went through the same process just now and error has gone for time being, although I think the flash is on its way to heaven. Some pictures are dark and others completely white out!!

Taking it in to the sony shop tomorrow to see if they can lend any advice - I hope it doesn't mean a new camera as I've not over used it....

Let me know how you get on
