Brother MFC-6490 - Accidentally put magenta ink cartridge in black cartridge slot. Now that we've replaced it correctly, still printing magenta instead of black.
Already tried cleaning print heads & printing a lot of pages to try & get any remaining ink out of well.
My brother mfc 6490 has stopped printing yellow, i've done number cleans and changed cartridges with no luck. has anyone out there got a fix for this?
Hold down the menu key. While still holding the menu key, unplug the machine and plug it back in. Do not let go of the key until the machine reboots and the screen says "maintenence". Hit the following keys: 7, 6, 4,black start. The machine will then go into "power purge" or deep clean mode for about 5-7 minutes. When complete hit: 99 to get out of maintanence and reboot. Be sure to have extra ink cartidges on hand as it does use up a lot of ink but this process works the best every time when the printer wont print

Hi there,
You must have to do the cleaning process many times as necessary until it prints correctly.
Since the pipes still have magenta ink, it will have to drain all the magenta ink.
Press Ink Management, then select Cleaning Black. At the end print the quality test page.
Do the procedure until it prints correctly.
It will eventually clear itself !
Most of the Brother MFCs use ink Tanks NOT ink cartridges, as the MFCs have a separte print head - ink cartridges include a print head which get thrown out with the rest of the cartridge when replaced. This is why Brother ink replacements are so cheap compared to "normal" inkjet printers.
It may seem like it's taking a long time, but there is quite a lot of ink in the pipes from the ink tanks to the print head.
POWER PURGE!!
