Hi Ola, check that the connection cable is ok or replace it with another cable
check with another phone if the line is ok
Indicate the brand and model of the phone you are commenting on, in order to find the best possible solution

Well Ola, check what I tell you,
Keep in mind the distance of the hand phone, with respect to the base, if you have many walls to cross, it is very possible that you have no signal for that reason, do the tests in the place where the base is located
If you have no results, go to the store that bought the phone and claim

SOURCE: PHONE JUST A DIAL TONE?

Make sure your phone is in Tone and not Pulse dialing. To change it for your phone, just look in your manual. If you don't have one, I have included a link for you to d/l it.

SOURCE: No dial tone on handset

It may not be registed with the main unit. You may need to register the handset. With my uniden all i have to do is put it in the main base until it says what handset it is (it should be a number).

my phone rings when someone calls, when i pick up the receiver to answer the phone is dead. i have an old phone i plug in and it works fine. we had a prolong power outage, and was wondering if it might have an effect on the phone.

That isn't a whole lot to work with. Get a working phone and take the cord out of the base of the GE and plug it into the working phone.
If the working phone gets a dial tone, look into the modular receptical on the GE base and see if the contact wires aren't out of place.
If you don't get a dial tone on the working phone, try changing the connection cord between the phone and the wall. Also look for the same problem in the wall receptical as discribed above for the GE base.

The visual ringer will not flashing.

At an educated guess sounds like dial tone is set to decadic if there are two phones the other phone will set off ringer when numbers dialed. May need to get phone provider to change dial mode in exchange line interface circuit to be Dual tone Multi Frequency Dialing and then switch phones to Tone dialing rather than pulse dialing.

Phone does not dial out any numbers.

Check the side of the phone. Look for TONE / PULSE selection.

MOVE it back and forth and leave it to TONE.

I have 2 problems. 1. The orange message light will not stop flashing no matter what I do. 2. Some how the system was switched from touch tone to dial tone. I can't seem to that switched either.

Resetting the voice message waiting indicator
When you receive a new voice mail message, the new message LED on the top of the handset flashes. In the event your message waiting light gets out of sync with your phone company's
voice messaging system, you can manually reset it back to the "No messages waiting" state.
1. Press and hold FiND on the base for five seconds.
Note: The handsets connected to the base will start to beep, however, keep pressing for five seconds.
2. A beep sounds and the message alert tone is reset.
Changing the dial mode
Your phone can communicate with the telephone network in two different ways: tone dialing or pulse dialing. These days, most base networks use a method called tone dialing, so your phone comes programmed for tone dialing. If your phone company uses pulse dialing, you will need to change your phone's dial mode. If you don't get a dial tone or can't connect to the telephone network, please follow the steps below to modify your phone's settings:
1. Press MENU/SELECT.
2. Select the Global Setup menu, and then the Dial Mode submenu.
3. Scroll to highlight Pulse.
4. Press MENU/SELECT. You will hear a confirmation tone.
If you ever need to change the dial mode back to tone dialing, follow the same procedure, but select Tone in step 3.

Need to change phone back to tone dialing

Here's what the manual says: Changing the Dial Mode (Tone or Pulse Dialing) (HS1 only) Your phone can communicate with the telephone network in two different ways: tone dialing or pulse dialing. These days, most phone networks use a method called tone dialing, so your phone comes programmed for tone dialing. If your phone company uses pulse dialing, you need to change your phone's dial mode. If you don't get a dial tone or can't connect to the telephone network, follow the steps below to modify your phone?s settings: With the phone in standby, press and hold [cid/menu]. Press [vol/ / ] to move the pointer to select DIAL. Press [select/channel] to set the phone to pulse dialing. Press [end]. Return the handset to the base. The handset communicates the new setting to the base, and the base activates the setting on any other handsets. Hope this helps out. K

Purchase another unexpensive phone. Check if you have dial tone. If not call your carrier.

All you have to do is put the phone that does not get a dial tone on the MAIN CHARGING BASE for 20 seconds! it will then sync up!

Lisa, If the 900MHZ phone is Model 26928M programming for rotary dial usually goes like below, can't hurt to try on any model. TONE/PULSE DIALING This adjustment allows you to select tone (touch-tone) or pulse (rotary) mode dialing. The phone is pre-set for touch-tone use. To set to tone or pulse dialing: 1. Press and hold the program button for two seconds. You will hear a beep. 2. Press the *tone button to select Tone Dialing or press #pause to select Pulse Dialing. 3. Press the program button again.
