SOURCE: Defrost timer

http://www.us1internet.com/FRS24XGCW2_141846.htm

The above URL will take you to an exploded view of the controls. Look at number 23 which will be located behind toe plate below door on the left side. That is the defrost timer. Rotate the clutch head screw Clockwise SLOWLY until you hear a loud click. That is the defrost timer starting the defrost. If the unit restarts after 18-22 minutes and defrost does not take place you problem is most likely the defrost thermostat.

SOURCE: WHERE IS THE DEFROST TIMER LOCATED ?

Hi

The defrost timer is sometimes found behind the front grill of the refrigerator. It may also be found behind a cover plate inside the refrigerator or freezer, in the temperature control console, or behind the refrigerator near the compressor.
The timer is usually held in place with one or more screws. Remove the screws and gently pull the timer out far enough to disconnect the wiring connector.
Locate the timer switch and turn it clockwise until you hear it click. One click and the refrigerator shuts off = defrost mode, second click the compressor and fans come back on = run/cooling mode.
*Some defrost timers are a constant or continuous run timer, which means when ever the refrigerator is plugged in the defrost timer is powered up and running. Some defrost timers are an accumulative run timer, which means when the refrigerator is off the defrost timer is off and not running, when the refrigerator is running the defrost timer is running. This is also sometimes called a demand defrost. The power for the defrost timer goes through the cold control first on an accumulative defrost system. The timers are often the same but will be wired differently to get the different operations.

On several occasions, I've emptied, unplugged and defrosted the unit which solved the problem for several days. It seems to happen most often during humid weather. I'm sure it's a defrost...

Good Afternoon, My name is Houston and thank you for using FixYa! Your defrost system is made up of three components: defrost heater, defrost thermostat and defrost timer/control board. Since you have the ABB2223DES Amana the defrost timer is incorporated into the electronic control board (P/N: 12868513) which is located behind the control panel in the refregerator section. Unfortunately, it is in the $100 range, so let's hope that it is either the defrost heater (P/N: 67001794) - approximately $30 - and is located on the right side of the evaporator (the coils in your freezer section). If you have access to an ohm meter, you can test it by disconnecting and doing an ohm check - anything but an open or infinity reading usually means it is good. The last item is the defrost thermostat which is located near the evaporator (P/N: 12001937). It can also be checked with an ohm meter and the normal readings are 28-48 ohms. 10_4_2011_7_26_31_pm.jpg

The fridge side is not cooling well. It is cooler than room temp, but not cold. What could cause this problem?

In a side by side, the most likely failure for your type of problem is a failure in the drfrost ciruit (defrost heater, defrost thermostat and defrost timer) that allows an ice build up behind the inner back panel of the freezer. And then you also get an ice build up in the cooling tubes that is susposed to take cold air from the freezer compartment to the refregerator compartment.

The next likely item is the evaporator cooling fan that is located in the freezer compartment. If it is working then there is no cold air transfer. You should be able to feel the air flow in the refrigerator section if it is working.

MAGIC CHEF MCBR1000W

Had trouble finding a diagram with this model # but most common defrost problems are bad defrost thermostat, timer/control board, or a little more rare is the defrost heater.
