Washer fills up but the will not wash

Once the water fills up the agitator looks like it is going to spin and moves a tiny bit then stops and just hums. If I open the lid it will stop if I move it to the spin cycle and when I close it again it hums again so I dont think it is the lid switch.

Sounds like something is clogged in your pump under the washer.

see the motor drives the pump, but if it is clogged, the motor will not turn.

Fills with water but then does not agitate. Agitator moves only tiny bit in both directions. Pumps out and spins OK but makes grinding sound when finished spinning

I do not work on washing machines, But I had the same problem with my own unit. Replacing the transmission fixed it. I hope this helps you.

Agitator starts at begining of cycle before washer is full

Please be carful as running the agitator without enough water will overheat and kick out the motor, however it should be ok when it resets itself.
Yes, the machine should stop agitating when you lift the lid so this too is part of the problem.
After looking at the print I can only suggest that the cam contacts in the timer ( contacts 12 and 14) that start the motor are burned and stuck together.

Kenmore Series 80 top loading washer that doesn't spin or agitate

Unplug machine, remove water pump and motor, behind the motor is a coupler, take broken parts to your local appliance parts store. Costs 16 bucks, replace the broken parts with new ones, reassemble machine. Never ever do a blanket/comforter in your machine again!!

Old model rca washer machine...will not agitate/wash the clothes, does spin.

If the washer fills up with water and you hear the motor running but the agitator doesn’t move, the agitator coupling is the most likely problem. First pump the water out by turning the timer to spin. Once the water is out, turn the washer off. Now pull up on the agitator until it comes off (it may be hard to pull off). Now that the agitator is off, you can see the agitator coupling, reach down and try to turn the coupling. If the coupling turns freely, it is striped out and needs to be replaced.

Will only work on cycle, will not agitate in the other cycles

Thanks for your question You say it works on one cycle but not the other lets sat you start a regular wash ,the washer should fill ,wash for the minutes you have set, pump out the water #spin , Stop fills & rinse stop pump out water &spin If you try a delicate cycle and it does not do what it did on regular cycle . You have a timer problem . Thanks for your question hope i helped you solve it . THE APPLIANCE DOC
