To generate strong suction, the motor has to turn at a good speed. If its a bag vacuum change bag with new one when a great deal of debris builds up in the vacuum bag, the air faces greater resistance on its way out.

You say the belt is not broken and the roller does not spin. Does the motor that spins the belt turn. If the belt does not spin and the little drive motor spins then you will burn the belt out. Try to turn the roller by hand. Could be plugged up with dirt and the roller seized. The little drive motor could be burnt out. Take all hoses and areas out that any dirt could be in. No suction means something is plugged. Even your main suction hose could be plugged.

Hi, what you need to do is check for suction at the inlet hose that detaches from the roller brush. If you have real good suction there and you plug it back in to the brush, it should pick up if the roller is turning. Turn it over to see if the belt is on the motor and the brush will roll when it is turned on, but be very careful not to get you're fingers near it! If you have no suction from the hoses, you have a blockage in the hoses. You can take the hose loose and try and run a long broom handle, it may be long enough to clear what ever is caught inside. Its just a matter of cleaning all hoses and making sure the belt is not broken and the bag is not full if it has a bag. Let me know what you find.
    Sincerely,

Eureka 4870: Brush roller turns even in hose setting.
You either have the wrong size belt, most likely too small, or you have installed a new belt incorrectly. When you open the cover on the bottom of your vac, you will see the pulley that moves as you flip the switch from floors to carpet. The belt does not go around this pulley. When activated(carpet) the pulley puts tension on the belt causing it to turn the roller. When switched back to hard floors, the belt looses tension allowing motor to cause suction but disabling roller. Also, the dial on top of vac is only to direct suction, not for disabling roller

Sounds like you have two separate problems here. If the brush bar does not rotate, probably the belt is broken. This is easily replaced, but you need to be precise about which model you've got so you get the right belt.
Loss of suction is due either to a blockage or, quite often, to a split in the short length of clear plastic hose that leads back from the brush bar enclosure. Repair is possible but replacement is better.

Lay the machine on the floor with the front side down. Undo the 3 large plastic screws with a coin of some sort, then remove bottom panel. On the back of carrage where the roller bar sits their should be a clear plastic tube check this tube is free of dirt. Check around inside the carrage for hair string etc. Check belt for breaks and swelling in the rubber pull ont roller bar and check the end caps on the roller can spin freely. If not pull off the end caps these will be very tight and wash out all dirt and fluff, dry thourley and lubricate centre pin and end caps inside the roller with baby oil or wd-40. replace roller bar and belt, turn roller bar twice slowly to centralise the belt, replace bottom panel making sure that the clips on front are sitting in their holes. fastern the plastic screws and leave two hours before usage

    Hi.

Keep the axe on hold try this first.

Ok first thing to do is remove & clean the 2 piece premotor filter or purchase new.

Now remove soleplate from bottom of machine to do this rotate the 3 plastic screws to unlock position. Lift sole plate off now remove any blockagers or fluff that may be built up over the brush roller.
Remove hair from brush roll using scissors.

Check short clear hose for blockages & any damage rips or tares if it is damaged purchase new hose.

Now look at belts & rotate brush roller it should turn relatively easy if it is difficult to turn by hand remove the brush roller & pull off the end caps the axle will come out with one of the caps.
Check the roller bearings clean away dust build up replace end caps & axle spin roller holding on to end cap if freely to spin refit back on to machine.

If its stiff to rotate you will need new roller.

Now pull off the 2 inspection ports check them for bits of paper etc especialy the (U) shaped port at bottom rear of machine this can contain pens pencills stones all sorts of items that hinder the suction.

Now check the long flexi hose & metal wand for any obstructions.

If after all this machine is still not working correctly go to this sitehttp://dysonmanuals.llc.nu/

On this site you will find Dyson service manuals covering poor suction, clutch, motor, etc.
