Kenmore Microwave Hood Combination oven Model 401.80089 that is displaying SE. Tried to rest power but no luck? Key pad does not respond either?
I have Microwave Kenmore model 401.80082700 about more than a year. After about 6 months, it stated to have some probles such as some number keys not working. Then button START become nor working some times. I can use only button of 30 secon increment to cook something. OK, the fan is working for most of the time but the levels are stuck, not adjustable. I can't changer the fan levels. Now the lamp buton is dead. Sometime, the fan level control is working by itself level 1, 2, 3.... then it appears -SE- on the display. nothing work now. I unplug.... then plug back, it ask to input the time or date... I can't do any thing. Later some time I can cook by using 30 secon button.... It is anoying. Please how I can fix it? Thank you.
The 401 in the model number is the model prefix for Samsung, who manufactured the oven.
SE error means you
have a shorted membrane keypad.
If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by
itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.
So until it is repaired,
please leave it unplugged or leave the door
open when it's not in use, and of course one should never leave a microwave unattended while cooking.
I would need the rest of the model number from the tag to help you more.
A full Sears/Kenmore
model number has 3 digits, a dot, then 8 more digits, such as

This answer is specifically geared to model 401.80082700 BUT will apply (with different part numbers) to similar models.
If your model number is different, simply visit the Sears parts site to get the corresponding part number(s) you need, then buy the ones of your choice cheaper here.
"SE" on a Samsung (or Kenmore-branded Samsung) means you have a shorted membrane keypad (aka membrane switch).
There are three ways you can fix this, all of which are pretty simple. Please refer to exploded view here:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdir...
You can replace just the membrane keypad. I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically
involved.
Here is the part you'd order:
DE34-00178Y (ref. 53 on exploded view) membrane touchpad / keypad / switch $25.14 here.
A
little cheaper and much easier is to replace plastic control panel
frame, which comes with a new keypad already attached. This is what
you'd order:
DE64-01847B (reference 66 on exploded view) control panel (frame with keypad) $23.76 here.
If you choose either of these two options, you can remove the control panel assembly with the help of the video at our site.
For option two, disconnect the keypad strip as shown in the photo below, then remove
the screws that hold your circuit board in the old frame.
Then
carefully (since the display is made of glass) move your
circuit board to the new frame, and reassembly is the reverse of
disassembly.
Even simpler, but at a higher cost, you can replace the entire control box assembly - plastic
frame, keypad and circuit board - and keep the old one as a backup. Here's what you'd order.
DE94-01648B (reference 59 on exploded view) control assy / control box $61.17 here.
