KV-32s42. 10 years old. Have never had a bit of problems with it and then the other day turned it on and the picture was only half the screen and had blue and green lines going through it.

top half missing is in vertical circuit of set---if it is a 27 inch and this old consider retiring it and replacing----other option is consider having a shop repair it--a rough guess would be as high as 150 dollars parts and labor is possible for your problems.
Hi, In this situation many possibilities could be there like:but one thing is sure that the area of problem is "Vertical Section" 1-PF could be short/open 2- Collector volts are not present due to open/short 3- Capacitor could be popped. If you are tech person then check the Vertical Section and you will find the caused component. And if you are not an expert then i suggest you to contact any expert because fault finding is a bit difficult and can only perform by an expert. Thanks for using fixya.
IT SOUNDS LIKE THE VERTICAL I.C. NEEDS SOLDERING. WHEN IT LOOSES THE PICTURE DOES IT HAVE ERROR CODE 2 ? THE RED LED BLINKING 2 THEN 2 THEN 2. THAT IS LOSS OF VERTICAL. IF YOU SMACK THE SIDE OF THE SET.(NOT TO HARD) WITH OPEN PALM ON LOWER BACK IF THE PICTURE COMES BACK IT IS THE VERTICAL IC THAT NEEDS TO BEE SOLDERED. DON.
this is a problem of synchronization. are there any adjusting knobs in the tv set (vertical hold adjust) if yes you can try but if none maybe consult a technician.
intermittent problems can usuall be liked to bad solder connections. And sony typically has some that will develop after a few years in the power supply. so check for bad sodler connections throught the main board & give a close look to the power supply & check you work after to make sure you have no shorted pins.
good luck.
