You have to use remote setup to program off progressive scan. Go video is made by LG, the remotes for dvd/vcr combos are almost the same.

The player I have is not set up/able to record to DVD's, only able to play them.

Pretty common situation. You can either just use one connector (audio) and record it as the left or right. If they are home video - they are most likely mono anyway. If they are stereo takes (purchased movies) - you might consider borrrowing a stereo VCR to provide two channel output. Since everyone is going to Digital - many people are giving away older TVs with built in VCR function. I use Dazzel for this alot - it's handy to have a VCR with a good remote for play, stop, pause and FF and RW.

This could be due to unsupported file type on disk (eg.wmv,mov,mpeg,mpg,etc)

You must push and hold power and dvd eject at the same time.

The power circuit for the DVD and the vcr are separate look for a open diode and transistor in the circuit that supply the DVD.GOOD LUCK.
