Black screen when camera is turned on

I dropped my camera and now have a black screen. I took it to a local store and they told me the viewfnder was damaged. To replace it will cost €160. I can still view pictures from the memory card using the camera. Can you tell where i can purchase a viewfinder online.

Sanyo will replace it for $50 if you mail it to them. Just contact them for the address and slip.
This is common. The parts are hard to find. Your best bet would be ebay

On power up of the camera, both LCD screen and viewfinder are black. Batteries are brand new. What could be the problem?

i took mine to a local, reputable, camera shop and they told me the sensor went out and it would be $199 to replace. hope this helps.

View screen black when on & no longer takes photo's

Sounds like a dead CCD. Contact your local Canon service center.

Black Screen

Do more internet searches of your model. Sounds like the sensor chip died. Pretty expensive part. Could have not liked the salty environment or you are just unlucky. Do the search until you give up as there is a lot of info on internet. Cameras are getting pretty cheap now so if it is a little old or cheaper model, you may do better with a forced "upgrade".

Black spot on camera monitor

That is caused from dropping it. You could send it in and have it fixed or you could find a local repair shop to fix it for you.

DSC W80 Black Display and Black Photos

I talked to sony assistance and they said nothing really helpful. They told me to try:

- Putting everything default again
- Taking out battery and holding down the power button for 30sec and putting back the battery,

None of these worked.

Nixon coolpix L11

if the resulting images are the same, you have damaged the camera settings/controllers. see how they look on your computer.
if only the display on the camera is damaged, you should consider asking for a flat rate repair. most makers offer a price for major and minor repairs, and never charge beyond that.

Black screen

I had this problem too. It's caused by grease on the iris curing (setting) and jamming it locked. The motor that opens the iris when you turn the camera on isn't powerful enough to overcome it, hence the black screen.

There's a tutorial online somewhere about how to fix it. But if you're like me and not that good at that sort of thing take it to a local camera repair shop and get them to fix it. Tell them what the problem is and that you need them to clean the iris blades. Emphasize you don't want them to grease them afterwards, just leave them dry and clean. The guy i took it to was very unsure when i told him all this but told me I was 100% right when i picked my camera up, and that cleaning the iris blades had fixed it.

It's been 4 months since I had it fixed/cleaned, and it's being working great every since.

PS. There's a strong suggestion Sanyo knew about this when they shipped it but shipped it anyway. It's not been proven one way or the other, but I personally will never buy a Sanyo product again.
