Bottom fills with water, line not clogged

Bottom of dishwasher fills with water and leaks out during wash cycle. Drain line is not clogged.

  • lrandall363 Sep 12, 2009

I haven't received any error codes. Water leaks out of the dishwasher during some part of the washing/rinsing cycles yet water stays in the bottom of the dishwasher after the complete cycle.

I can turn on the dishwasher and drain the water with the hose disconnected from the disposal and draining into a bucket, but I have to turn it off before it begins to wash.

Hope I'm making this clear. Thanks for your help!

Are you saying that your LG LDF7811 dishwasher is leaking from the bottom? Or is it disappearing during the cycle? You should be getting an error code on the display of your LG dishwasher. What is displayed?

This means that the outlet valve or the drain motor is faulty or their is a leak in the pipe between them and the machine.

SOURCE: Dishwasher Does Not Cycle

IA, these GE pumps have a habit of sticking if the unit hasn't been run for a while. First you want to verify that the motor is in fact getting power, this will eliminate the timer. You can use a meter on the quik connect from the motor while in the wash cycle. If the motor is getting power, see if the pump is stuck by turning the motor vanes (Do this with the power off). If it's hard to turn and then frees up than this was more than likley your problem. You remove the bottom toe panel and will be able to check this out without removing the dishwasher. SOURCE: GE Nautilus GSD4200 Dishwasher will not wash/drain

The average life of a dishwasher is 7-10 years. The symptoms strongly indicate a motor pump problem and my personal opinion is if that is the case youd be better to put the money toward a new dishwasher.

Checked water temperature at water heater. It was at 110 degrees. Turned water heater up to 125 degrees. Dishwasher works perfectly now.

  4. Leaking pump or hoses: The pump or hoses may be leaking, causing water to collect under the machine.

Some water is leaking under the dishwasher and on the kitchen floor during the end of the wash cycle.

Does it leak during pump-out only?
If so , must be drain hose .To see everything, remove kick plate to isolate leak. Check hose connections. Fill and drain and observe.Or run a whole cycle with kick plate off to find leak.

Good luck

Not cleaning fully - tablets left in bottom of unit - some of runners on bottom tray missing

Hi there,

Well first of all you can check the Water-inlet valve
Most cleaning problems are caused by the dishwasher not getting enough wash water, so the water-inlet valve is often to blame. This valve is usually at the bottom left or right of the dishwasher, behind the lower access panel. It's the device with the main water line from the house, a rubber tube to the dishwasher, and two wires attached to it. When a water-inlet valve is defective, you may hear the sound that's usually referred to as "water hammer." If the water-inlet valve is defective, you need replace it.
After then you can check the Drain valve,  that should open only during draining. If debris lodges in the valve, it can't close properly, so water drains out during the wash cycle. Most dishwashers drain into the garbage disposer. If yours does that, listen for water flowing into the disposer during the wash cycle. If you can hear it then, the drain valve may be clogged.
Please post comments if you need more help or information..............

Good Luck!!

Thanks

Kenmore washer fills during spin cycle and doesn't drain completely

HI, this is just a slight clog or faulty drain pump. check the following areas.

1. Clogged drain line or water pump
Check to see if there's something stuck inside the pump or the drain hose connected to the pump (pump is usually located at the bottom and towards the back of the washing machine).

2. Water Pump
If the drain line isn't clogged, you may have a problem with the water pump such as a frozen pulley or a broken impeller. If that's the case replace the water pump. Note: if you have a belt driven washer, check the belt(s) for cracks, as this would be a perfect time to replace the belt(s) if needed.

Water leaking from dishwasher lg model lds5811ww

The drain line is clean. Have you checked to make sure the the rest of the drain is clear all the way down to the main drain?. Also check the pump to make sure that it is working properly, it might be pumping water in, but it may not be wanting to pump the water out

GE dishwasher

If you have a fair amount of water in the bottom of most, if not all dishwashers then the problem solution involves one of several things to check.. First off.. is there a drain filter ( at the bottom of your dishwashere where the water gets drawn to the pump) that may be clogged up with waste material from the dishes? If that is clean... then the next thing I would check is for any kinks or clogs in the drain hose leading out to the drain system in your house.. ( many times the drain hose is attached to the side of the sink garbage disposal but it may have a direct attachement to the drain itself ( normally under the sink).. check that for obstructions.. and as a last resort.. if you do not see any kinks in that line.. you can detach it and cycle the dishwasher ( without dishes loaded) and run the dishwasher in a large bucket to see what kind of flow you get.. if you get a fairly good flow.. then you your pumping system is ok but your drain system in your home may be clogged ( improperly vented ) or restrictive to flow.. First things first.. check the drain screen, check the hose ... check the flow into a non restrictive bucket.. If the flow is weak.. then you may have a clogged or damaged pump.. Hope this helps you...

More likely: the solenoid which directs the water to either the drain or the spray arm is clogged/jammed. Located underneath near the drain line.

Whirlpool built in dishwasher. not aware of model number

Putting vinegar in the bottom of the dishwasher is not going to help because it has nothing to do with the FILL cycle. The bottom (or sump) actually is used during the WASH and DRAIN cycles. I would check the fill port where the water inlet hose goes into the side of the wash tub. You will need to pull the unit out and locate the inlet hose on the SIDE of the dishwasher. The hose should be a black rubber hose located on the left-hand side of the machine. I had a very similar problem that turned out to be calcium deposits clogging the fill port BEFORE it got to the fill valve. With the unit turned off, I removed the rubber hose and used a small screwdriver to poke straight down into the fill port and break up a bunch of calcium. The unit worked fine after that. It is normal for some dishwasher models to drain if they do not detect enough fill water, or if they detect a leak. Usually when the fill port becomes restricted or clogged you will find puddles of water forming under the dishwasher. You might want to remove the bottom panel and check for leaks as well (if you haven't done so already). If you check the fill port and it is clear, the fill valve could be a possibility as well. However, you mentioned you could hear water running which leads me to believe that you have a simple clog somewhere...but, the valve could have accumulated some deposits as well. Check the fill hose and let me know. Good luck and I hope this helps you. PS Another common mistake people make is to put drain cleaner in their dishwashers. This can damage the pump and chopper assembly. Not to mention, it could be harsh on the some of the rubber seals. Not a good idea.
