On this model, the heat roll has a temperature sensor. If the heat roll is worn and coated with toner, this will damage the sensor. Most common problem is this sensor goes out when a heat roll is badly worn. Circuit boards on this model are pretty reliable. This sounds like a fuser rebuild.
If you like to replace this machine, no, it is outdated. Try shopping for a new machine. If you are looking for a certain part, need to know what part is needed.
Re check all the connections. When taking off the paper feed assay, other parts and plug and jack connections were needed to be taken off first. Make sure the drum seats in its correct position, silver grounds are not bent. The copy cartridge and Dev housing are not connecting very good somewhere. Make sure the machine is unplugged. Try running copies.
If it is a WCP 580. clean the feed tire very well with something like formula 4009 then rinse it with alcohol. Most likely that feed roller is cracked and worn. Will need replaced.
If your unit is out of warranty, sadly but true go get a new equipment. Xerox will probably charge por parts and service almost what you paid for the equipment.
