Looking at the specs, the max is 2gb for your Toshiba. According to this website, its only a 256mb ddr sdram. So my guess is you only have 1 slot for the ram. I'd go with a 2gb ram if you can afford it, 1gb just don't cut it in todays technology.

I believe its the PC2700 model, so find a 1gb or 2gb PC2700 @ 333mhz and you should be set.

Always use as few memory chips as possible; one chip (1GB) is better than 2x512MB.

That way, you can expand easily without losing any me
mory.

By the way, if you add a single 1GB chip, you can also keep one of the ccurrent chips in the computer.

Yes You can use 2 512MB of memory on this model.

That's absolutely fine. It would give you same benefit as 1 single GB of memory.

    M35x series have 2 slots :-

    Each memory slot can hold DDR PC2700 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.

RAM upgrade

(1) flip the Notebook/Laptop PC over - see Fig.1 below
(2) find the memory cover - it really easy to find in this photo.

(3) remove the (1) screw securing the memory cover.

(4) Using proper anti-static/static control techniques, clip alligator clip or your anti-static wrist strap to a frame ground of the laptop at an I/O connector or frame ground under the HDD cover.
(5) carefully remove (2) old 256 MB SO-DIMM DDR333 memory modules.
Store old memory boards in the anti-static plastic baggie in which the new memory boards were shipped.
(6) install (2) new 1GB SO-DIMM DDR333 boards, for total of 2GB of system RAM.
(7) reassemble system, and boot OS (operating system).
The laptop's ROM BIOS will auto-detect the new RAM and begin a standard POST (Power-On Self Test).
(8) If OS is MSWindows, it will also auto-detect the new memory, and allocate it to application software.

The technology of the Toshiba Satellite M35X-S349 memory module is called
DDR333, meaning DDR (Double Data Rate) SDRAM (Synchronous Dynamic RAM), at a memory bus speed of 333 MHz.
The Form Factor of the DDR memory card is SO-DIMM, which stands for Small Outline DIMM (Dual In-line Memory Module) (see photo).

Not enough memory

  • your Toshiba Satellite M35X-S311 has the following memory configuration
  • Configured with 512MB
  • The maximum memory you can have is 2048MB (Max),
