It is a radar detector detector. So if you are running a radar in a state where it is illegal, this technology can detect the presence of your radar detector and you can be pulled over and ticketed. This is done by detecting the local oscillators and other "RF leakage" from the radar detector.
Sometimes you may notice that when you are near another car with a radar detector, your radar detector may go off. There are situations where your own radar detector can detect leaking RF energy from another detector in a nearby car.

VG-2 looks for a specific frequency that is produced by the radar detector's oscillator. That frequency is centered near 11.558 GHz. Each manufacture has a different centered frequency, so the VG-2 searches from 11.4-11.6 GHz

I found that at Consumerland.com

What's vg2 mean on 1530 Whistler

The VG-2 button is to engage VG-2 Cloaking Technology.
From what I can see VG-2 Cloaking Technology is a way the detector has of avoiding being detected by authorities in areas where the use of radar detectors is prohibited. I am not in a position to say how effective this is, I suggest you refer to reviews. I have only researched the meaning of VG-2.
Rider here: Please do your own research on the effectiveness of this technology on this - or any - detector.
Of course the best way to avoid being picked up for speeding is not to speed. (But you knew that..)

My tv has several white horizontal lines running across the top of the tv screen the tv brand is an Insignia SDTV and its an older tv what can be done to remove these lines?

This is a retrace blanking problem. Probably, the Vg2 voltage is too high, so the cut-off point from the picture tube is not correct. Try to lower this voltage. On most common flyback trafo's it is the lower adjusting screw (plastic kind of button) which is used to set the Vg2 voltage. Turn it a bit CCW until the white lines disappear.

What does vg2 mean

VG-2 is a device that the police use to tell if you have a radar detector turned on. This is used in VA and Washington DC as these areas radar detectors are illegal to use. If you do not live in these areas there is no reason to turn this feature on.

Why does vg-2 and spec go off in my state florida win dectors are legal? thanks4 your time

It will only alarm VG_2 when you have turned on this feature otherwise it will not. Not sure what you mean by "spec" however. From the manual "

DARK/VG-2 Button - Reduces illumination of display

to "dim" or "dark" settings. Press and hold (for two seconds)

to engage or disengage VG-2."

Questions

Ku is a band of radar used in some places by law enforcement. It is not used everywhere and can be a pain if it goes off for no reason. I recommend consulting your manual and turning the Ku band off if it is not used in the area in which you live. This will enable your detector to become more reliable for when you are being "zapped" by law enforcement

Pop is a way of using radar where the officer turns his radar on and off quickly. As a car approaches, they will turn the radar on long enough to get a speed reading, then immediately turn it back off to avoid detection by civilian radar devices. Some of the newer models of radar detectors have a feature which detects pop radar.

Every electronic device emits a frequency. Vg2 is what law enforcement use in states where radar detectors are illegal to identify whether a car is using a radar detector. The newer version of vg2 is called spectre and accomplishes the same thing. Some radar detectors can pick up on vg2 and spectre so the owner can turn the detector off before they are detected by law enforcement.

Question

rick12, Vg2 is a detector used by law enforcement to detect your detector.lol I hope thats not too confusing. Basically, what it does is sniff out your detector after it goes off. If your detector "smells" the VG2 searching, your unit shuts down so as to not put out a signal to alert it(vg2) Kind of like a stealth mode,,

Signals

When "X" lights up, this means that your RD is either detecting X band police radar or that it is detecting an X band microwave automatic door opener.

When "K" lights up, this means the same as above except that the radar signal is a K band radar signal.

When "Ka" lights up, then this means that your RD is detecting police Ka band radar since no automatic door openers operate on Ka band.

When "VG-2" lights up, this is supposed to mean that your RD is detecting a VG-2 radar detector detector (RDD). Police use RDDs such as the VG2 and the Spectre to indicate that a motorist is using a radar detector.
