SOURCE: Hobart 140 Qt Mixer 4 speed. needs the oil changed? what kind of oil to use?

You can use a heavy weight gear oil or call the local hobart branch for it.To remove oil----Look under the mixer where the beater shaft is in the back and you will see a three quarter inch nut, remove this nut and drain the oil then put nut back in.To fill the unit remove the top cover screws and remove the top,you will see a long hexagon nut in length, remove this and grab a funnel then add the oil---be patient it takes time to fill as the oil is heavy.

SOURCE: Oil (or maybe broken down grease) leaking from the

You're right, it's broken down grease. The A200 doesn't have a rubber seal to prevent this from leaking, either. That's normally OK, when the grease in reasonable condition, but when it breaks down bad enough, you see what you're seeing. The grease needs to be changed which requires disassembly of the transmission. It's quite a job (and very messy) if you're not familiar with it, but if you're interested I know I've read (and may have written one) instructions on disassembling the transmission on this website. If you decide to do the job yourself, be sure to remove the attachment hub (comes out to the inside of the transmission) and clean the passage well.

Hello, my Hobart AE200 seeps oil from the front panel. How do I top it up? How often does the oil need replacing and with what type of oil? Thanks

It's not oil in the A200, it's #2 weight grease. Although when it gets old enough it can break down far enough to basically become oil (either that or someone put oil in it previously). There are a number of answers written on fixya.com explaining how to disassemble the transmission and change the grease. Fill with 36 ounces #2 grease. FYI : disassembling the transmission and changing the grease is a very messy task and one can VERY easily reassemble the transmission incorrectly, so consider bringing the mixer to Hobart to have the job done.

What type of gear lube should I use for my Hobart H600 mixer?

Hi, btperduell

below is a copy of an e-mail from Horartservice.com. I searched the web forhours for the correct oil and could not find any info so I e-mailed Hobart. The Planetary is a different part from the transmission andthe sight glass on a M802 is for the oil in the transmission. The answer that Hobart gave is not an NSF oil. Ineeded the oil for the planetary section on a model M802. Even the directionssay that it is normal for a drop of oil to occasionally drip from the seal. That is where the dough hook attaches. I am in the process of researching the oil and Exxon / Mobildoes make a NSF version. I just need to find somewhere I can buy less then a 55-gallondrum. The above mixer only uses 6 ounces. Take care and stay safe Thank you Mike Hobart E-mail follows ============================================================== Mike, Hobartuses "EXXON SPARTAN EP-150 (6 oz)" in the M802 planetary. Hobart part #102973-13. This IS NOT a food grade oil. If you mixer is leaking you shouldhave it serviced. Service, parts , lubricants and information canbe obtained by contacting your local Hobartoffice in [email protected] (412) 788-5380. My d300 hobart mixer is dripping oil when I am using it. How can I stop the oil from dripping out

It uses grease which breaks down over time. The transmission has to opened up and all of the old lube removed and replaced with fresh lube and the bottom seal replaced. Contact your local Hobart office. www.hobartservice.com to locate your local office.

What kind of oil i can used for hobart d300

Transmission uses #0 weight grease, best to get direct from Hobart (their grease is the correct weight and approved by U.S. FDA & USDA as safe for use in food equipment) but if you insist on not doing so, at least obtain an Extreme Pressure #0 grease and don't overpack the transmission, I believe it should have 35 oz. if memory serves right.

Uses a heavier grease for the planetary gear, use #2 weight. Don't need much, just a light coat on the planetary gear.

Bowl lift rails use medium weight oil, again use food grade oil supplied by Hobart.
