What is the range (Blood Pressure Reading) for an 83 year old man?

Diabetes, alcohol use, and other factors influence the danger of high blood pressure, and often a lower set of number is recommended based on research than is commonly stated.

Hypertension (defined as a blood pressure over 140/90 mm Hg) affects more than two out of three individuals over 75 years of age.

Your Doctor should prescribed blood pressure medication if indicated since they are aware of factors that you may not consider important, including weight, daily exercise, and existing heart conditions.

Causes high systolic blood pressure

Isolated systolic hypertension can be caused by underlying conditions such as artery stiffness, heart valve problems or an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism). For years, doctors focused primarily on diastolic blood pressure. The recommended goal for systolic pressure for younger people is less than 140 mm Hg.

What is the symptoms of high blood pressure?

Symptoms of High Blood Pressure -

- High blood pressure is generally a chronic condition and is often associated with few or no symptoms.
- When symptoms do occur, it is usually when blood pressure spikes suddenly and extremely enough to be considered a medical emergency.
- Rare symptoms include dizzy spells, headaches, and nosebleeds.

High blood pressure is often associated with few or no symptoms. Many people have it for years without knowing it. However, just because high blood pressure is often symptomless doesn't mean it is harmless. In fact, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or hypertension, causes damage to your arteries. High blood pressure is also a risk factor for stroke, heart attack, and other cardiovascular problems.

I am a 73 year old male with COPD and broncatise. what would be the normal blood pressure be.thank you

Ideally an average of 135/85 is good, but you might not have that. With this situation it is likely your BP does need management. In your age group any hypertension is a risk because the old plumbing isn't as good as it used to be.

Get along to a doctor and tell all, about diet, smoking, alcohol, other drugs you take, exercise or lack of it etc. The doc may order blood tests to get a complete picture, and even maybe a bit of cardiac testing if you've never had that.

Lest you think I'm sermonising, I'm 69 and when I went to check all that stuff, hypertension and diabetes 2 were revealed, but my heart was still OK, so I hope to live a bit longer, and so should you too. Good luck.

Your blood pressure too high - Hypertension Stage 3

Requirement for hypertension stage 3 is a value of over 180 over 110.

If you are getting these values on multiple checks please consider finding a doctor as soon as possible. http://bloodpressureok.com/reading/176-over-166

Hi my son is 29 and has a blood pressure of 138 over 71 is this normal

Is that a spot reading or an average of several? A spot reading does not say much by itself as BP varies a lot through the day. It is generally agreed that the lower of the 2 readings (diastolic) is the more important and that one seems OK. Another factor to consider is his family history on the male sides.

However to be certain see a doctor who will advise.
