Blank Screen my monitor is on and i can hear the functions of my yim getting im's but my screen is blank. i have turned it on and off but it still just has a blank screen

If you hear it start up and the lights come on, try hooking up an external monitor. When you do, be sure to push the Fn key plus whatever special function key shows 2 monitors on it so the output will be directed to the external monitor.
Sounds like the LCD screen might not be working.

Do you see anything at all such as the boot up logo? can you hear the HDD spining? if you can hear the HDD spining but you see nouthing try the following.
connect an external monitor. Look along the function keys and find one with a screen logo on it press fn and the appropriate F key and it will switch to the external monitor. The switching of screens is normally 3 cycles 1. external monitor on 2. both laptop screen and external monitor on 3. back to laptop screen.
If the external monitor comes on it's the screen inverter or screen at fault.
Once you have confirmed what the problem is we can move on to checking the screen wiring or a screen or inverter change.

3. Turn on the monitor. The floating 'Dell - self-test Feature Check' dialog box should appear on-screen (against a black background) if the monitor cannot sense a video signal and is working correctly. While in self-test mode, the power LED remains green and the self-test pattern will scroll through the screen continually.
   
4. Turn off your monitor and reconnect the video cable; then turn on both your computer and the monitor.

If your monitor screen remains blank after you use the previous procedure, check your video controller and computer system; your monitor is functioning properly.

It appears that the display resolution set in your display properties is out of the range that the LCD can display.

Try this.

Boot to the ENABLE VGA MODE by pressing F8 to get the Windows Boot Menu. If you can get to the desktop, then go to display properties, and see if you can change the resolution to higher settings and maintain video. (If the video blanks out, then it should revert to the previous setting in 15 seconds)

There is just no way you will be happy to hear it needs service or replacement under warranty.

i got the same prob.supposedly its the cap(capacitor) ,the one for the power suppy near the cord input.im getting my shit fixxed.and i will let you know.

ccfl ( cold cathode flouroscent lamp ) is the backlit feature of the lcd panel. If you see a blank screen but do see the output on the external monitor then you sure have to take it to the hardware tech to get the inbuilt LCD panel checked. it seems to be a electronic failure. Thanks Ashish.
