I'm afraid you're out of luck, the motherboard is not capable of taking a dual core processor. Your only option would be to consider selling the laptop and buying a new one that already has a dual core processor installed.

Get a can of compressed air and make sure the dust balls are blown out of the system. I have seen several systems get over heated and when they do the system will shut down.
