Phillips DVP642 DVD Read Error

After struggling through alternate playing and pausing during DVD playback, DVP642 made clicking sound then failed to recognize disc. Now it will display the "LOADING" message for any working DVD followed by "NO DISC". It seems it is not able to read anything. Is there possibly an easy fix or is that wishful thinking?

SOURCE: philips DVP642 DVD Player "No disc" problem

if its still under warranty, do that.

if it's not, try taking it back to the store and asking for a replacement. don't let the floor salesman tell you no. insist on speaking to the manager. my strategy is to: "be polite, appear slightly stupid, and dont take no for an answer" it works 80-90% of the time.

if you cant get anywhere (or dont want to try that route), then you have nothing to lose. open the case and try to clean the mechanism and lens

two screws on either side of the unit, and i think another 4 screws on the back side. this will allow you to pull the top cover off the unit.

clean the mechanism, and clean the lens. you can buy cleaner if you want, but i just use a soft cloth and some "no-streak" type window/glass cleaner (windex)

clean your disks as well. this DVD player seems to be sensitive to scuffs and dust more than some other players. you just have to be persistent.

or you could buy another DVD player. at $60, its really a pretty good deal anyhow.

good luck

SOURCE: DVV Player won't play disc

Check to make sure your player can play other disks. If so then use the disk doctor to remove the scratches on your favorite disk. The area that all DVD players scan before playing a disk is probably smudged or scratched.

SOURCE: displays no disc

I had the exact same problem. When I finally opened the top there was another disk already in there. I guess if the unit shuts off and you leave aa disk in it will stay in the player even though when you open the door to place another disk in the tray will be empty. All you have to do is unscrew the cover aand then you will see a crossbar held in with two screws where the disks are. unscrew them and take out the two disks thay are stuck togeather. Replace eveything and rescrew and enjoy the movie!! Hope this helps!

LG LRA-750 goes to PAUSE during playback.

Hi Andy12345,

It sound like the LRA-750 processor board has developed a fault, it may be in its remote IR sensor circuit or the main micro-controller. If it's still under warranty I'd take it back the the store where you purchased it and get it exchanged. Some LG items have a warranty of up to 3 years, check yours on-line, at the LG website.

Refurbished philips dvp642/37 playing and stops playing

the problem is not the power supply capacitor. it will eventually fail, and need to be replaced, but when it does you'll know it because you wont be able to use the DVD at all. it wont turn on, and the standby light will just flicker.

the problem is that your mechanism/lens is probably dirty or dusty or out of alignment.

this device is kind of sensitive moreso than other players. by "sensitive" i mean "cheap"

try cleaning it with soft, lint-free cloth, and windex.

clean your disks as well.

if that doesnt work, you may just need to buy a new DVD.

at $60 its a good deal, even if some of them do crap out too soon. you can spend more $ on a better quality player if this fact bothers you.

Won`t play disney movies

Apparently this is a known issue. Some dvp642 players have compatibility issues with some of the Disney DVD's. A firmware update might help. There is a discussion of this at: http://www.videohelp.com/forum/archive/t317193.html

DVD Player makes a slight "tick, tick" sound during playback

I would certainly take the unit back cause that noise could be the tracking or focus coils making that noise as they are being overdriver. This could cause the unit to fail prematurly. Its not an adjustment that you can do your self, it takes special equipment and disc

Video playback is not smooth while playing via USB 1.1

USB1.1 port can generally handle transfer speeds approaching 5.5Mbps between PC and DVD Camcorder. Smooth playback of movies requires 5.5Mbps speeds or above. If the PC you are using has some compatibility issues with the USB driver software, the USB port may drop to speeds below 5.5Mbps causing short pauses during video playback. It is recommended to copy the movie file from the DVD Camcorder to the hard disc drive (HDD) on your PC, then playback the movie from the hard drive.
