Hitachi 42V710 42" Rear Projection HDTV Logo
Anonymous Posted on Sep 08, 2009

Yellow spots We purchased our Hitachi 42 inch LCD rear projection television Model #42V715 4 years ago. At that time Hitachi was the top of the line and thats why we chose it even though it was very pricey. $2,099.00. About 10 days ago we started seeing large yellow spots on the screen. We have been told that it could be very expensive to correct.($800 - 900) We are very disapointed that this kind of repair is necesary when the set is only 4 years old. What would you say is the problem and the estimated cost to repair. We are very upset. Kathy

Have you resolved this with Hitachi? We had the same issue although our TV, same model, is 2 years older. We did not purchase an extended warranty therefore theoretically out of luck. Yellow spot in center is light engine. Parts and labor $1,200. Do not wirte Hitachi, call their customer service. Getting to a supervisor will take considerable effort but you must. The customer service rep. that answers the phone will not do anything for you. This has happened to our set twice!!! Hitachi paid for parts and labor both times. You must be persistent.

Testimonial: "We are still working on it. We really appreciate your input but are upset that it's happened to you twice. Any other suggestions to help us? "

I have been told by a local repair person that Hitachi might replace the light engine at no cost because it is such a big issue... has anyone hear about this... I am going to contact them directly also.

Testimonial: "Have you heard anything from Hitachi? I mailed a letter to them on October 6 but I dodn't know if I mailed it to the right place. Haven't heard."

It needs a light engine, but the price you have is for the engine only $997.00 add another $250 labor and that is closer to the cost for repair.

Hitachi rear projection LCD with yellow blobs on screen

I have the same tv and the same problem, but my yellow is a cloud around the outside of the screen. My tv was recently moved, and a repair shop told me that sometimes in a move these tvs light engine takes a shock and causes a yellow "band" on the screen. I am hearing that these light engines are not cheap either. Hope this helps you.
