I am trying to use my sisters old Acer Aspire 5050-3371 laptop, but she can't remember her password, what do I do?
i had created a new user account and deleted the existing user account.now i can use the new user account.but if i want to use dvd writer or internet it is asking to seek permission from the administrator.when i want to login as an administrator it is asking password.is there any solution to change the password of administrator so that i can use dvd writer and internet

You must realize that if an Administrator forgets his/her password, then you might have to start all over. It is your sole responsibility to remember the password, no one else's. Next time use a password manager, such as KeePass.
That's crazy. so expensive. I don't think you have to pay so much money. There are many BIOS password recovery program in the market, some of them can word very well under Windows XP. For example, Windows Password Recovery Basic, it only cost $19.95.

when your in the screen where you select a user
press ctrl+alt+del
then type administrator with no password
if she didnt set a pasword for that user then itll go in..
just a matter of removing/changing your other user accounts passwords then..

you should be able to press F8 on start up, so as you are able to start in safe mode, the option will come up and highlight the line 'Start windows in safe mode' and press enter.
When windows starts the icons will be larger than normal, so don't worry, but their will show your own account and an administrartor account, click on the administrator account and go to accounts and select the account that is passworded.
You should then either be able to delete the password, change, or delete the account, when done, restart pc and it should be ok and back to normal
Start/Control panel/user accounts.
