Neptune dryer smells like kerosene!

We have not done any type of painting or used any type of solvents recently. This problem happens every once in a while and usually lasts at least a few days. The clothes stink and the smell is very strong inside the dryer if I open it when it's still running or right away after it stops. I was wondering if it could be something in the gas from the provider? Perhaps something in the line? I have read similar statements with other models so I don't believe the brand has much to do with it.

The smell you are referring to is being caused by aldehydes. The gas burner has incomplete combustion is smothering. Make sure the moisture vent and pipe are not restricted. Try running the dryer with the moisture vent disconnected and see if the problem continues and make sure air flow thru hose is good. Also check outside where the dryer vent exits and make sure there is plenty of air flow. This particular dryer has an inducer fan that pushes the air to the burner and a blocked/plug vent will cause this. You may have to dis-assemble the dryer and inspect the burner compartment for lint build up and restrictions to burner compartment.

Mark, My name is Hal and having trouble understanding where you painted. Did you paint the inside of the drum? Or did you paint the house interior?

If you painted the inside of the drum did you use a high temperature paint? If not, that could be your problem since the dryer does get very hot inside and it could be melting your paint.

PLEASE CHECK THE OUT SIDE VENT AND MAKE SURE THERE IS NO SOOT BUILD UP. IF SO TURN OFF AND HAVE CLEANED. DID YOU JUST PAINT WITH AN OIL BASE PAINT? THIS WILL CAUSE AN " KEROSENE" TYPE ODOR WHEN FLANE IS ON.

Dryer makes a funny smell in the house and makes the cloths smell a lil funny as well???

I would need to smell the odor but a couple things will cause this. One being built up lint that is smoldering so I would definitely investigate inside for this. Also (more common with gas dryers) is when customers are painting or staining and varnishing in the house. This will give clothes a kerosene type odor. Try to think back to when it started and see if anything was changed in the household routine at that time. Good luck, Eric

Chemical like smell while clothes are drying

If you have recently painted or varnished something then just air out the house. The fumes can react w/ the heat of the dryer to create this smell. It smells different than the actual fumes, but still like some sort of solvent.

Questions
Gas or Electric dryer?
Is the odor there even when not running?
Have you recently done any painting or stain/shellac in the house recently? Home perms?

Gas dryers will often give clothing a kerosene like odor if the above conditions have occurred. Any sprays or aerosols can have the same effect. Unfortunately only removal of the culprits and time will alleviate this.

Hi there. Actually, you could find a white dryer and spray paint it. I have done this and the appliance paints are amazing.

Kerosene smell from the dryer

I have read other places that if you have recently painted, stained, varnished or used something in your house that has some sort of oil base it can make you dryer make your clothes smell like Kerosene. My dryer started doing the same thing and it was at the same time that a contractor was staining some trim in our basement. Good luck.

Dryer gives off a strong odor which make my clothes smell.

if you have been painting or staining recentley the chemicals in these products are mixing with the mercaptin in the gas to cause the odour. The problem will correct itself when the fumes are gone.

FUEL LIKE ORDER COMING FROM ELECTRIC DRYER POWERE BY FUSES

Have you recently painted anywhere in your home. And I mean anywhere? Paint fumes or other chemical type cleaners or solvents will get in the elements and put off that whole gas or oil smell. If no, have you put any type of clothes in the dryer that may have had some paint or anything else petroleum based on them to dry. That also could have caused this smell as well. If your hot water heater runs on propane or natural gas, check it careful for leaks. This could be a serious situation as a major explosion could happen if it is leaking. Leave the house and call 911 immediatly from a safe distance. I doubt that this is the problem, but be safe than sorry. Let me know if none of these are the culprits. Thanks and let me know.

Smell

Have you recently painted or finished any woodwork or floors? A gas dryer will smell like gas when the vapors from paint or finishes reacts with flame. It can smell like gasoline.
