Hello,

If you enter the menu on the TV, go into Picture Settings and Choose "Dynamic".

Pick advanced settings, at the bottom of the menu, then you can alter the Gamma, Luminence etc to your Hearts content.

IMHO it is in the eye of the beholder what "they" want the picture to look like though, You have to choose.

I have a 5 yo 52" Samsung lcd. From a cold start it cycles on then off about 6 times before a picture comes on.I replaced capicitors and no difference. Whats next?

Most of the time only secondary large electrolytic capacitors are being renewed althoug small E. capacitors in a primary circuit of an smps (around the switching driver IC) can also cause this kind of issue. Although you say you replaced them i still believen its a bad capacitor.

Avol ALT42FD120 - frame rate change 60-120hz?

Hi. It is entirely possible that the set is already running at 120Hz after all. The display 1080p 60Hz is merely the signal it is receiving and the earlier TV's that used to claim 100Hz/120Hz merely did so using line doubling only to give a clearer picture by filling in the blanks between scanlines. If your picture is already very clear, then I wouldn't worry about it

Vizio SV470M, picture is moving too fast

This is often called the "Soap Opera" effect...I had a similar problem and found that changing the settings helped tremendously. Here are the settings I use:
Picture Mode: Movie

Backlight: 18
Brightness: 49
Contrast: 52
Color: 42
Tint: 2
Sharpness: 3

Advanced Video
Noise Reduction: strong
Color enhancement: off
Advanced Adaptive Luma: Off
Enhanced Contrast Rato: off

Color Temperature: Normal
Red: 121
Green: 128
Blue: 118

Smooth Motion Effect: low
Real Cinema Mode: Precision

Also, there's a great thread on the Soap Opera effect here:

BRAND NEW 42in. vizio 1080 LCD HD 120HZ picture not clear

the tv models in store are usually have samples from blueray dvds. standard dvd players will look fuzzy because it only submits standard dvd picture quality. you can try an upvert dvd player. tho i cant promise picture quality. i have an xbox 360 that upverts the quality. if you get a bluray player i recommend hdmi wires. if you get upvert dvd player and it has an hd outlet red, blue, green wires it might work. i havent tried one myself. if you dont want to spend money on bluray dvds. i recommend an xbox console. it upverts dvds through hdmi or hd red, blue, green wires

Red lines and seeing double image

First place to start is with the Main bd. Have a trained Samsung tech troubleshoot the set. Call 1-800-Samsung to set up a service call since your tv is a new model and is under manufacture warranty. Make sure you tell them you want a Samsung Field Engineer to repair your set. They are the most qualified and trained to fix your set.

Connecting samsung home theater to samsung lcd tv and direct tv

Need to get more granular on this, Does the volume work HT remote, for like radio, cd, ipod audio? For you to use the tv audio through the HTB the tv's audio settings should be on the "fixed" output option. This gives a line level to the Amp independant of the tvs volume adhjustment. Otherwise you will need to adjust tvs volume 75% or so before the audio amp will reproduce a good volume. Turn down audio amp prior to making any adjustments. Let me know thx
