Gateway NV5105u Laptop. I have the Windows 7 disk. There is no recovery partition or drivers, I receive error & I've tried Diskpart to create a partition and I get a message no disk partition found.

My advice in this isn't expert.

I seem to remember when I loaded Windows 7 I was given the option to create a recovery partition. I didn't take that option and suspect whoever loaded your operating system also didn't.

I think your best option is to format the drive and reload everything. Formatting is best done by removing the drive and formatting with a separate computer.

How to reformat a laptop using the F9 function?

So my questions would be are you attempting to restore your PC to factory settings? or put a new Operating System on it?

If you are trying to restore to the way you got it, you probably have a recovery partition on your hard drive. If this is the case you are going to want to restore to your recovery hard drive.

If you are trying to put a new operating system on your PC then you will probably want to recover to the non recovery hard drive.

The other option to use the entire hard drive will give you more space on your PC to use, but will wipe out your recovery partition. Hope this helps.

If this isn't making sense try taking a picture of your partitions and posting up here so we can give you better advice.

When i open my laptop, then boot, it goes to this windows 98 startup menu which has following options: reboot to windows xp, recover windows xp w/ full hd, recover xp w/ 2 partitions, and recover xp w/ 1...

first, recover your files. You will need to use something like this data recovery program.

I've had to use it many times in the past but in this case you need to plug that drive into another system as an external drive or slave drive and run the software from there. It will rebuild the drive and hopefully recover the files.

After you get back your files, you can then format the drive and reinstall your system.

No Operating System; Cannot Format User Partition - Gateway MX595

Hi,

It seems that you have a corrupt user partition on your drive which is stopping you from doing a recovery.

What you will need to do is delete the partition(s) on your Gateway by using a system repair utility CD. ERD Commander 2005 or Bart are utilites that will allow you to boot from a CD and then delete the partitions.

You could also use a friend's Windows XP CD just to delete the partitions.

Once this is done, you should be able to re-install your OS (assuming there is no physical damage on the hard disk.

Hope this helps.
