NAD C521 CD Player It will not play my CDs. The CD drawer closes normally with CD in place but after a pause, the drawer opens again. There is no 'no disk' warning. The 'no disk' warning does appear normally if I close the drawer with no disk loaded. What to do please ? Philip Massey

The tray belt raises the laser to proper focal length at the end of closing the drawer. This demands more grip from the belt. If the belt is sloppy, it will slip at this point, even though the drawer is shut. Took two years of repeatedly cleaning lasers to notice this.

A question: Has the lens ever been cleaned? If you answer NO to this question then it might need to be cleaned - and properly. With the power disconnected take off the cover. Just to add, it's surprising how a dirty lens causes playing difficulties.
Using a cotton bud and isopropyl alcohol (not too much) clean the lens using a gentle circular motion then wait until it has evaporated off the laser lens. Connect the power (DO NOT LOOK INTO LENS - LOOK TO THE SIDE) and try the machine again. If all is well then replace the cover - job done.
If the problem still persists there may be a fault with the laser or if the disc does NOT spin, a problematic disc motor.
