I have my Samsung HT-X40 connected to a Samsung 32" LCD TV via an HDMI cable. While using the HT-X40 to play DVDs, the screen will periodically go completely black. The sound remains present, but I loose the entire picture. If I turn the TV off and then on again, the picture will come back. I have replaced the HDMI cable, the problem is less frequent, but it still happens.
I have a 50" Hitachi HDTV and a Samsung DVD/VCR that upconverts its output to 1080i and is connected to the TV via HDMI cable. The problem is that for the first 15 minutes or so of playing any DVD or videotape the picture on the TV vanishes but the sound continues. After turning the TV off and then back on the picture is restored. This nuisance continues for the first 15 minutes or so, but after turning the TV off and then on again 5 or 6 times the problem miraculously dissappears and I am able to watch the rest of the film with no problems whatever. Any ideas or solutions would be appreciated.I have a 50" Hitachi HDTV and a Samsung DVD/VCR that upconverts its output to 1080i and is connected to the TV via HDMI cable. I'm having the same problem. Suddenly the screen goes blank for some seconds, or untill I turn the device off and on, or even until I switch the input source, then get back to the HT HDMI. Man, it's driving me crazy. Happens when in 720P or 1080i. No problems with 480P. I replaced the cable, updated the firmware, which I think was a "downgrade", since the one displayed by my device was 1.06 or something like that and the one on the website is version 0.98. Anyway, the problem happens with both versions. I also sent the device to be checked by Samsung local support office with no luck. They gave me the device back 2 weeks later saying it was fixed, but in the first minutes testing a DVD the same problem appears again and it happens at least once per film I play. I read about HDCP problems causing this issue, and lots of people reporting the same problem with this Samsung specific model around the world. Heard about the PS3 having the same problem in its beginning and Sony provided a firmware update which could effectively fix it. I own a Philips DVD player with the same upscaling capability which never presented this problem with the same Samsung LCD TV I'm using now, except it is just a player and not a home theater system.
I'm thinking about connecting both devices to use the image of the Philips player and the audio of the Samsung unit, although it is a lame workaround, which may not work perfectly.
Is there anything else I can try to solve this problem? Or should I just discard this upscaling function for now?I'm having the same problem. I'm facing the same problem, but I'm working with Samsung about it. I won't settle for a product that doesn't work. Mine goes blank in 1080i and 720p. Samsung tried to repair it once, and it still goes blank. I'm working on getting a new model from Samsung or will send it back for repair over and over until I get something that works. Make Samsung take care of their faulty product.
You can use this firmware too:
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/download/supportDown.do?group=mp3audiovideo&type=hometheater&subtype=hometheatersystems&model_nm=HT-X40T&language=&cate_type=all&dType=D&mType=FM&vType=L&prd_ia_cd=03030100&disp_nm=HT-X40T
I bought a X40 system too from Samsung and face the blank screen with voice issue. However, my mode was 720p right from the start.
The solution from "runtowin" says that we need to download the HT-X40/XAA Firmware. When I was on the Samsung site I noticed that there were many such updates for XAA, XAC, etc.
My box says that my system is a Samsung HT-X40 hometheater. In this case which update do I use?
Switch from 1080i to either 420p or 720p (720p is actually better)
there is also a downloadable program from samsung.com
search for ht-x40 downloads 8. home theater HT-X40T/XAA Firmware this will upgrade the dvd player

I bought the optical audio cable ($15 WalMart) and use the Digital In on the DVD player to play the sound through the surround system and turned the TV speakers off. Works great! The optial audio has square ends and looks transparent with just one round shaped cable that goes from the TV to the back of the DVD player.
I received an e-mail from Samsung which reads
"What you have described in your e-mail was an issue that was logged and has been investigated we have released a firmware update to resolve the issue"
also
"In order for the firmware to be updated on the unit please call our product support team on 0870 726 7864 for assistance"
if ur surround hasnt got digital in then it wont work also its better to use the red white and yellow wire, i have hdmi and them wires hooked up and i have sound through everythin all i have to do is put it on aux 2, try it out
Wow, I have the same problem. I have even tried using never used DVDS, it just freezes after a while. I will get small glitches every few minutes. I am calling Samsung tommorow and raising hell, this was a Christmas present and I am embarrased. I also use HDMI and have changed the set up to 720P.
Hello All, I discovered the same problem when connecting my LCD TV LE40R8 to my HT-X30. I reported the problem to Samsung this morning and they told me that they are aware of the issue (which is with the TV) and an automatic software update to resolve the problem will be sent out to the TV early in December. You should get an automatic update message on your screen, just follow the instructions and this should upload the fix. Fingers crossed!
are uusing hdmi out this is known for hdmi issues u could always run stuff direct to tv unless its dvd player u wann watch then back from tv to this digital coxial cable
I'm having the exact same problem.
