This worked on a Lexmark X3400 Series Printer and should for most others.
Unplug Printer for 30 seconds
Check USB connections are secure
Plug the power core back into the Printer
Hold down "Power and the Start" button until you see "MFG Menu Enabled"
Press the "Mode" button 3 times then you will see "LCD Button Test"
Press the "Up Arrow" 2 times "Single Test Page"
Did it print? If not, then the printer is defective return to store, buy an Epson.
More to Check....
Goto Start, Control panel, Printers
Make sure your printer is selected as default. If not change it by right clicking on printer and select Make default printer.
Right click on your default printer and goto properties. (If you are running the VISTA OPERATING SYSTEM right click on default printer, Run As Administrator, Properties)
Goto the ports tab.
Check that Enable Bidirectional Support is CHECKED
Check that your printer port is correct. EXAMPLE: usb or lpt
Is your printer installed properly...correct drivers?

Lets Check if everything is installed....Anything with ! ? X means something is not installed properly and should be corrected.
Right click "My Computer" goto properties, hardware tab, device manager
Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers is
USB Printer Support installed
Last but not least Check the "READY" Status of you printer.
Goto Start, Programs, Lexmark XXXX Series, Lexmark Solution Center
Does it say Printer Status Ready....if not, make sure you have the proper drivers and reinstall.
Goto Maintainence, Print Test Page.

The mode selector on my 3430 all in one, is stuck on copy, so when I go to lexmark screen to try and scan it I get a "lexmark series is busy" error message. Do you know of anyway to get it unstuck from the copy option? Thanks in advance...Margie
Make sure the USB is connected to the right slot. My first USB port didn't work and i got the same message. Then I put it in one on the front and it works great.
Lexmark 3470 printer will not work if you have a Windows Me system. The CD they furnish with the printer has drivers for the 3470 (you have to have drivers to make the printer work) but they will not work with the Windows Me systems And they will tell you this when you go to their site and uae their chat help, or if you call them etc. SOLUTION Go to Google search engine and type in Lexmark 3400 series printer drivers (do not put in 3470, the 3400 series drivers that you will be able to download will work on all 3400 series printers) The search will give you plenty of FREE options and sites to download the drivers you need.
SAVE the search to your favorites so you can go back there easily in case you need more info!

All i had to do is put the windows xp disc in and it pulled up the necessary files. but now I cant fi nd the original install disc to install it on another computer so am trying to download the disc from somewhere. it only took about 2 additional lminutes to install it and it works perfect. paid 25 dollars for it and the cartridge is 22. anyway works good. L

I did the same and was prompted by windows telling me that the drivers were not to be used for windows as being non-compliance. Now, the reason was that there were extra drivers needed that were not on the start up disc for the Lexmark 3430. Best thing to do is take the unit back and get your money back and find a compliant unit with the Windows LOGO on it stating compliance. You are better off doing it like Windows says to and forget the after maket cheap junk. BIGG

i had a similar problem when the printer wouldn't print. Make sure that the printer 3400 lexmark series is the default printer in the control panel. (start/control panel/printers/printers and faxes/right click lexmark 3400 series/set as default printer).

i cannot install my printer
The printer worked fine with the drivers i downloaded from the lexmark website, until i changed the ink cartrage for the first time, now it wont be controlled from the computer anymore.
