SOURCE: tefal proline express steam generator iron needs de scaling

Make a solution of half water and half white vinegar. Fill up your iron and get it good and hot then let it sit a couple hours. flush out and repeat as necessary. Hope you find this helpful. Please give me a fixya rating If this works for you. It works very well as long as it is not completely filled with scale. Once you have it good and clean By a gallon of bottled water at the market and use that for your Iron and you will never have a scale problem again. I learned how to do this 20 years ago from a 80 year old woman from england. If it is really bad you can up the vinegar concentration but do not go higher than 2 cup to 1.

Water coming out of steam holes

Either: the iron is not hot enough to heat the water to steam temperature or the internal water-flow valve is leaking so that too much water is getting through. Check the iron is getting hot enough first. If it is then run some de-scaler (as used in kettles) through the iron to try to clean all the passageways. Always ensure that you fully re-flush the iron after de-scaling or you'll damage your clothes with any acidic residue left in the iron.

Good luck.

ensure that your iron temprature is high enough to generate steam. if ironing delicate cloth ensure your steam option is switched off. if your iron has a filler cap or water container ensure they are fitted securely. water dripping usually when the iron is too cold to turn it to steam or you have a leak somwhere.

How do I get the boiler on my rowenta steam generator to fill? I was given this model.

You should only use distiller water in the steamer. Never ever use tap water! This is what caused lime and scale build up.
Since it's to late, you have nothing to loose by trying this to descale the unit:

Put up to one cup of white vinegar into the reservoir. Fill 3/4 of the way with water. Turn unit on and let it heat up, but DO NOT RUN STEAM THROUGH THE LINE. Once heated up, turn unit off and let it set for hours. Drain and rinse well. Then run a water only batch through the steam cycle. There are companies that sell special de scaling solutions. But hopefully, the vinegar will work.

While steaming clothing, a white flaky residue is being left on the clothing. Sole plate is clean. Residue seems to be coming from steam vents. What do I do to continue using this great iron? Evelyn Roll

Are you in a hard water or soft water area, maybe you could try using filtered water in your iron. To clear out the scale from the jets try adding a little white vinegar to the water and steaming it through, or a little "Calgon" diluted in water. Then perform a test iron on some dark fabric untill the scale has been removed.

4268 iron leaving residue

This will probably just need de-scaling. Buy some descaler and there should be instructions on the packet of how to de-scale an iron. Usually by warming the iron slightly, switching off, emptying out the water and then adding the diluted de-scaler to the iron and leaving it in an almost horizontal but raised position in a bowl or something so that some of the de-scaler will drain through. Then emptying out, re-filling with water and then iron something that you don't mind getting marked while any residue get's flushed out.

My Rowenta Garment Steamer will not steam up.

Ok. This thing is caused by scaling. If the steam generator runs out of water the sensor thinks the tank is empty and causes the machine to go to standby (basically switch off -- orange light comes on). The solution: Open the machine and clean it.

MAKE SURE THE POWER CABLE IS UNPLUGGED BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO THE FOLLOWING:

1. There are six screws ( phillips - you will need a long screwdriver). Two of them are hidden under the wheels (just pop off the rollers and you will see the screws)

2. Open the steam generator (there are four screws) and be very careful with the 'O' ring -- you damage it and you can say good bye to the machine. Clean it if you see scaling. The amount of scaling present would indicate how hard your water was. This itself may not be cause of the problem but now that you openend the machine, you might as well as clean it for better efficiency.

3. Disconnect the hose to the steam generator (it has two circlips) and clean it. Mine had hard deposit of scales preventing the water reaching the steam generator.

Re assemble it.

Good Luck

Brown gunge and white deposits keep coming out of the steam holes on the sole plate. We have tried de-scaling but it has had no effect. This iron has had very little use since we bought it about 18 months...

Try filling full-strength white vinegar instead of water. Then allow to steam out on scrap cloth. The white deposits are likely to be calcium. The brown gunge may be rust. When the deposits are minimized, use only distilled or bottled water from then on.
