Hi you might think I am crazy but my Sony CDP-CX355 300 disc changer will skip only on tracks 1 through 5 the rest of the tracks work fine. Once in a while a new cd might work the first time I play it then after that it does the same as the others. I have used a cleaning disc a but it did not help. Do you have any idea what could cause this?
Thanks Colin
I got a free one of these from my work...well that is because it was having the same problem and they didn't want to mess with it haha. Sooo...I brought it home..thinking i could just buy a cd cleaner kit and clean the dirty lens..which is what normally causes these problems. To my dismay this didn't work (later found that the lens is a good half inch away from the disc)..so i decided to open the bad boy up (hey I got it for free...no harm crackin it open :-) ) After hitting the lens with a can of air..I tried again...no go. And just so you all know...this player runs vertically..not horizontally. I want to know how does the player read? the lens in stationary. All other players i have seen the lens moves up and down. I'm thinking it might have something to do with that. I gave up on cleaning it and started doing some searches..this was the only forum that was somewhat helpful. I agree with Silverscreen. When i watch the cd's playing the disc wobbles SLIGHTLY up and down. I think the rear stand-alone wheel is a bit too loose. ..The amount it wobbles is hardly noticed but is the only thing i see out of the ordinary.
I have the same unit and same problem...This one skips on the first song only. I took the unit apart and looks like the disc spindle is not centered.
Because the laser reads from the center (first song) out (to the last) the disc spins much faster during the songs at the beginning of the disc. As it slows down toward the end songs the skipping is not a problem...
Still working on correcting the problem...although I think I have identified the issue...not sure on how to correct it....new spindle or motor assembly? Where do you get one? Is it worth it to fix or replace?
Alignment or dirt (Not in that order) could cause this. It is also possible that the player is not reading the TOC before it begins playback of your discs...accordianman

Usually answered in minutes!
I have the same problem also.. track one plays for about 8 seconds then starts over and repeats.. as you play track 3 , 4, or 5.. then the player will operate correctly. I've tried to clean it, etc. but no luck! The disc does seem to wobble alot when it first begins to play though.
