Question about LG Washing Machines
Our LG washer severely damages the fabrics. New shirts, towels and bathmats are torn and / or have holes after a single wash. We have the machine less than a year. It is still under warranty. The total damage to clothing and fabrics is already more than the purchase price of the washer. It appears to be related to spin speed, but even at medium spin speed some damage occurs although less frequently. Damage is likely caused by the stress of the fabrics draped over the rather high and steep baffles during spinning. A very poor design and apparently not tested! I expect that the degree of damage depends how the fabric is distributed over the drum. If (say) a shirt is hanging over a baffle, there is enormous stress on the fabric at high spin speeds and it may tear. If the shirt ends up falling in its entirety between two baffles, there is hardly any stress in the plane of the fabric (and no damage). At low spin speeds the laundry is rather wet and that is therefore not an attractive solution.
You can try having the machine repaired or replaced under warranty but the real problem probably is poor design.

The motor on this washer turn one way to wash and the other way to spin and drain.
So if the washer is spinning and not draining you have a pump problem.Take the front panel off and watch to see what is happening.
You will have to check for power to the motor in spin. Either the motor is bad or the timer or both. Refer to the schematic for this.

First plug off the wall. Open the machine from behind to examine if any shock-absorbers(known as dampers) or springs have come off or broken. Your dealer could help with spares. But you could do the job yourself.
RepairClinic.com (which is good)

It appears your clutch assembly has failed in this instance.
For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...
FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.
PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.
If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.
Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.
If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.
Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question
