Sometimes there is a small trim piece where the canopy meets the ceiling that "snaps" into place and rather than turning to unlock it needs to be gently pryed off. If you have a small trim piece that makes more than about 1/8 of a turn without unlocking. that is definately what you have.

I'm trying to remove the housing by the ceiling on a Hampton Bay ceiling fan.

on most fans the housing at the ceiling is there to conceal the fan mount
it is normally held in place by a screw or clamp
undoing that screw or clamp will allow the housing to move down the pole to get to the mount
to remove that housing it will be necessary to remove the wires , the mount from the tube and then pull the housing up off the tube
can you explain why you want to remove the housing as it is only a decorative piece to finish the mounting of the fan

Trying to remove a ceiling fan Hampton Bay model C 542 MP (CH) PBL . its flush mounted and cant get to mounting bracket.

Look for 2 to 3 screws at the top edge of the fan's ceiling cowl. Remove those and the ceiling cowl can be sled down, which will expose the the ceiling mounting bracket . They are fairly small head screws, so look carefully for them.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Hi,
There should be a couple of small screws at the very top on the side of the canopy...you will need to loosen these a few turns and then turn the canopy and drop it down...

How do you remove plate to remove entire fan from ceiling. Very difficult to remove.

If you are talking about the 1/2 inch ring buy the ceiling you just need to turn it clock wise or counter clock wist a 1/2 inch to remove. then you will see the screws behind it to remove fan from ceiling mount.

Cannot remove casing around ceiling. Hampton Bay

Try twisting the bezel (cover) counterclockwise to unlock it from the mounting base plate on the ceiling. The other option is to see if the bezel/cowl has fasters (screws) holding it in place either from the sides near the top edge or at the bottom nearest the narrow portion of the cover.

Sometimes the fan cowl bezel is fastened using screws at the point nearest the motor shaft.

There could also be a trim ring that needs to be gently pryed off from the edge nearest the ceiling, so you can gain access to the screws that are holding the cowl in place on the mounting plate. There are usually 2 sets of 2 screws placed 180 degees apart from each other that secure the cowl in place.

I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Ceiling fan

If the fan blade mounts are removable, go to your local hardware store with one of the mounts, and find some screws that will fit. You might not be able to get the same color, but if you check a few stores you should find something with the right shape of head to fit snugly.
