Connect the big monitor to your Lap top, then press the Fn key and hold while pressing the monitor sw. key , this key has rectangle marked shaded and not shaded.

I have a em350 but screen broke so have been using a monitor and it was fine but now it wont work on it so need to be able to restart it without access to start menu etc. maybe safe mode. once prob solved...

You might know this already, but here goes:
The auxiliary monitor settings are set by pressing the Fn key (usually at the bottom left of the keyboard) another (one of the F keys at the top of the keyboard). That F key may have a small icon of monitors with a slash between them. While booting try pressing the Fn key continuously while pressing the F key several times. It will cycle through different settingss of "only LCD" / "Only external monitor"/ both monitors/.... keep doing that it may restore your setting.

Flat screen is going out

Replace the VGA or HDMI (whichever you're using) Cable, and the Power Cable (one of the two can cause this problem, or even worse, fry it!)

Then,...... try connecting the monitor (with new video and power cables to another pc that you know for a fact is working correctly... the problem could be your power supply, motherboard, etc..

If that doesn't work.....Return The Monitor if you can..........cuz if the above doesnt fix your problem, ........then you'll know the monitor is bad......but don't assume that til you try my solution k!

Acer AL1916W pluged into lap top but can't get both to run.

Have you used the Fn button on your laptop and changed the video display Icon on the Blue Function keys. You need to change the display wait a few seconds for it to take affect. There are several modes try them all so you know how to use them.

Compaq V2000 Display blacks out

sounds like the backlight has gone....test with an external monitor....if the external monitor works without any problems...the backlight has gone...better to get a professional to do this as its kind of fiddly and involves taking the screen apart

Connecting lap tops to monitors...

Try connecting a mouse and keyboard to the laptop and then start it with the top closed. Not sure if this will work on your model, but it works on a lot of laptops. This should force the PC to use your external monitor as the primary one.
