Desktop pc e machine 4210

We have just bought a psu and fitted it to our already dead box. It now (once plugged in) flashes, rapidly the dvd drive, the mouse and the little light on the box. But it wont power up properly. Can't afford new one. Does anyone know ball park area what it sounds like is wrong?

  • annji Dec 09, 2007

As soon as you connect the power wire to the box it whirrs constantly and the mouse light, the dvd light and the light around the on button all flash rapidly. You don't even have to press a button to turn it on. To cut power we have to pull the wire out of the box. There are no messages to monitor. It is almost like the computer isn't joined to the rest of its bits. (monitor, mouse etc)

  • annji Dec 28, 2007

Thanks anyway. The new psu bought was excact same in voltage , make etc. Thinks maybe pc fried. regards from annji

Replace the case power on switch or disconnect from pins on m/board and switch manually by shorting pins together momentarily, i had similair prob but was resolved by holding the power switch in while switching the power supply switch to on, would fire up instant and the case power switch will only turn pc off.

Hello Anjji
You must have a low voltage power unit, you need to know that your PSU need to be equal or have more power than the one you lost, but carefully again try to recheck cables, and install just the HArd drive power cord, and one of your CDROMs, turn on the PC, and see if power on fine.

Are you getting any messages when it tries to power up. Or is it just going through the motions and stopping. Is the monitor showing the boot up process.

  • Anonymous Dec 09, 2007

Is the power supply wattage the same as your old one if the power is incorrect it can cause all sorts of problems. Check to see if it is the same. Different motherboards require different power supplies

One comment i would like to tell you is to be careful with handling powers supplies. Even when you unplug a power supply there is still live parts working inside. don't go opening it up or anything.

  • Anonymous Dec 09, 2007

When you replaced the power supply. are all the connections connected to the motherboard the same way as the connections when you took out the old one.

I am answers for Monitor /PC mobo dead. only ,not windoz ever, and Linux works best here. fact.
I see you lost the beeper device (SOLVED ) !!!
Not putting in a new RTC CMOS COIN cell battery first, is bad. ($1 fix)
A bad coin cell make BIOS Dead or BIOS tells all lies endlessly. the cure is $1

well no history told at all , 11 years old and coin cell dead. I bet.
bought a bad 11 year PC that or just failed 11 years in use,
bought it dead, or failed just out of the blue, not TOLD
no history of PC told. at all.

the mobo some versions of 7, beep and others flash led codes.
dead PC , monitor tests good.(evidence)
no signal means video port dead or set to the wrong port on the monitor,do not trust auto mode set it manually in OSD. ok
is this a VGA cable , no bent pins?
Does the PC have PCIe video card , if yes remove it and use the case mounted vga port blue on mobo rear edge.

Dead signs on relic VISTA PC.2007MOBO.
FIRST OFF BIOS DOES NOT MAKE SOUNDS TO ANY SPEAKER PORTS. EVER. (WINDOWS DOES)
YES THE POST BIOS BEEPER CAN MAKE BEEPS ON ANY AND ALL P.0.S.T ERRORS.
NO PHOTOS YOU PC AT ALL, REAR NOR INSIDE WITH LEFT LID OFF,(so they helper is blind.
next you never said the monitor is VGA, sorry we can not guess that.
Not told at all if monitor was connected to the chassis (vga port or the VGA video car.s

the most sad part of all no photos posted of rear of mean, So I can see things connected wrong (sad :(
The VGA port is dead and PSU is dead too.
why is the question
CPU socket has bent pins, seen used mobo on ebay lots. Core 2 Quad / Core 2 Duo / Pentium D / Celeron
1:coin cell dead. sure it is. (next to CPU)in a vertical socket,.
2: PSU not bad (caps inside a wreck, bad) 4 pin and 24pin DC power plug to mobo , now.
3: PSU overloaded, strip down the PC. to find what is shorted
4 : MOBO jumpers missing or inserted INCORRECTLY per the MOBO manual , words. JCMOS1?

DO not flash bios on any sick PC or you brick it, (oops buy it dead like this OOPS)
testing first
monitor VGA cable to VGA port rear of mobo, mounted to MOBO called the onboard VGA port.
no PCI cards NOW
no usb devices (keyboard added if BIOS wakes up) use rear USB for keyboard only (for now)
no hdd or dvd drives connected. not yet.
1 stick of DDR ram tested 1 by 1.
no video cards. now. (just to be clear I repeat this ok/)
If the PSU is not bad , now, and monitor still dead, the MOBO is bad
PSU 24 pin and 4 pin power must be connected to the mobo now. the 4 pin us just above the VGA jack,
if all is still dead. unplug the PC (PSU) from wall AC power overnight or more
IN the morning or later try again. (PCs can in fact latch up, and this AC power trick , can wake it up
and now the BIOS SPLASH screen shows and F2 BIOS hot key and all BIOS pages work,, now.

Warning , never hot plug any parts inside the PC with AC cord connected to AC WALL power.
that is called Hot swapping will blow parts up, for sure DDR. memory for sure power DC cables hot swapped (boom)
do not do that and not wreck good electronics

Hint1, the keyboard LED dead mens lost of 5vdc , from the PSU., (USB ) if using USB keyboard , not told that. P/S2?

Hint2: some version of these mobo (many) have no onboard BEEPer device (sonic) not sure how it does POST errors, but the book says,(free) some have beeper device and the manual shows AMI beep codes page 25
v6.5 is not easy to find docs.
also some BIOS here use he DEL key (not F2) to gain BIOS pages. at power on. (keyboard USB only)
the caps lock key must not be set wrong or DEL key will be dead (DEL/dot) dot mode fails on some.

E-MACHINE 6532 WON'T BOOT

Could do with more info here
1.) Does the machine power up (ie is the power lED lit and are there signs of activity such as the cPU fan running, hard drive actuating and lights to the DVD rom drive, if not, worth checking the pSU is giving out power, the easiest way of which is to substitute a new PSU.

2.) Can the computer access the Bios (F1 or Del or F2)? If it can, does it "see" the hard drive and DVD rom?

3.) Are there any beeps when it tries to start up? If not, the cPU is most likely dead

can you clarify any additional symptoms if (1) does not solve them

Emachines T2042 does not power up. what could be the reason? a faulty switch or a faulty power supply? The power cord is fine. There is also some spark when I plug the power cord into the cpu whiles its...

Not usually, what you need to do is see if the fan in the back of the PSU, runs at switch on... If it does NOT, there is a good chance your PSU has "Blown" this is a simple replacement, and quite cheap. You need to troubleshoot the PC, you need to also see if the fan on CPU goes at all, even a "Flick" at turn on? To see whats what, remove all Drives DVD and cards, then power on, if No GO then probably PSU.. IF OK replace things until, it stops, that is your problem.. Also remove a stick of RAM, and swap about if two to test them... A machine will boot with just RAM, but will complain..remove and introduce things one by one until you find problem, if you do all that and it is NOT, the, PSU, RAM, CARDS, HARD DRIVE, DVD, then it is your Motherboard. Try that see how you go.

HP Pavilion s7310n Slimline Desktop PC | how to change the power supply

This is an easy one, Purchase a new suitable PSU, probably from Dell, You will find a set of 4 screws at rear of machine, in line with PSU, undo these 4 screws. Unplug the plugs from all the connections, MotherBoard, DVD, Hard Drive etc etc. Then simply do the reverse procedure.. carefully reassemble..

Open the computer and reseat all of the connectors, and memories.
if the machine is full of dust and dirt, then you need some compress air to clean them out. power supply, under the motherboard, hard drive, floppy drive.
flashing yellow lights means that either the Hard drive is not starting up or the momories is not present.

Hi,
Im assuming this is a desktop computer.
I ask this, because sometimes people post in the wrong categorys.
If your getting no power, Then the first steps, are as you,ve already done, checked the plugs main fuse. Should be rated 3-5 Amp.
The next suspect item, would be your computers PSU ( power supply Unit ) This can only really be checked with a multi-meter, if you take the side/top panel off. ( whichever Applies ) Towercase Or desktop.
You have an internal Power supply unit. This provides power to Motherboard, and internal hardware Devices. Hard-Drive CD Rom And any other internal devices. You,ll see a Square Box to the rear of The Computer, with several cables coming out from it. The Majority will Have 1 Red @ 5volt 2 Blacks Earth or ground And 1 yellow Cable @ 12 volts.
There may be an internal quick blow fuse in the PSU Itself.
To attempt to remedy your issue, i,d suggest to remove ( unpowered switched Off ) the 4 Pin Connector To the Hard-drive And the CD/DVD rom. These 4 pin Plastic Plugs are refered to As molex Connectors. simply pull the plugs, towards the rear of the Computer. HD/DVD Drives Only. Then try to power On Computer. this will eliminate, a possible hard-drive failure or seizure, and also allow the PSU extra power for booting up the Computer.
Other probabilitys are broken or faulty, power/On case switch, but quite rare.
If you follow these steps, and get some form of life from the Computer. Please let me know, and i will guide you further.

Mike @ compurepair.
