Dark spots on laundry from kenmore washer

I had the same problem once. I use only cold water to wash clothes. My neighbor suggest I let it run empty with warm to hot water. It should help if not more needs to done. I did the hot water cycle and so far with Gods blessing it's been working. Hope it helps.

This is from not enough HOT loads.

Fatty deposits gather between the basket and tub during COLD washes.

Then they are being released in large numbers when you do your whites on HOT.

It is recommended to do 1 HOT load per week.

Do an empty load with some degreaser added (like Goo-Gone) on the fullest/hottest setting you have.

f you use cold water wash and rinses regularly it may have an accumulation of un-dissolved detergent, dirt/grime and body oils stuck on the inside wall of the outer tub. When washing whites I assume that you are using Hot water and it could be causing some of the accumulation to break loose in small clumps and re-depositing on the clothes.

My front loading washing machine has a musty odor. what can I do?

The odor that you are experiencing may be from the growth of mold. Inside the washer, some small pools of water may be left standing and is harboring mold spores. Even though you may operate the washer regularly, the mold spores are not being washed away.I have a couple of tips that might help to eliminate odor issues in your washing machine. First, and the most effective in my research is to, leave the lid, or door to the unit open. By leaving the door open, it promotes air circulation and evaporation of standing water. The reduction in odor, will occur quickly and dramatically.

My second tip is to run the washer empty for a quick rinse cycle(on hot water cycle). Add an entire cup of bleach at the start of the cycle. The bleach is effective at destroying organisms, such as mold and bacteria. However, running it once will not be completely effective. I suggest pouring another cup of bleach into the wash tub, after the cycle has completed. This will leave bleach as the standing pool and should prevent the growth of mold or bacteria. However, if you do this, before doing a load of laundry you should run an empty rinse cycle again, to avoid damage to the clothes from the bleach left standing in the wash tub.

  • Additionally, inspect the door gasket for gunk or mold. Clean the gasket well. This is another gathering spot of bacteria and mold growth.

periodically this has happened in a white sheet wash in my kenmore front loader series 417. we ran the washer empty with washer cleaner and blackish water was ejected from the pump. DARK CLOTHES END UP WITH BLEACH DOT STAINS

Hello sa-kap,

yYu said,

Hi, I have a top loading Kenmore Elite washer (don't know model #) from the year 2002. It has the automatic bleach dispenser. The problem is that if someone has washed clothes with bleach sometime during the day and someone else comes along and washes dark clothes, the clothes get ruined with dot bleach stains. It appears that the bleach remains in the washer. Any tips or do I need to buy a new washer? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
V.C.My problem is similar to that which VCasabona is having. Not just dots occur but often big splotches. It may not even be just a colored load following whites on the same day but, on occasion, it occurs on the next laundry day, a week later with the first load that is not the whites with bleach. Also, my wife adds the bleach to the filled washer (old school, I guess), rather than pouring into the dispenser. My water pressure, which is not at issue, is not what I need to address to remedy the situation. I have noted that the ledge that is part of the floating tub had some build-up of deposits, some of which may have been bleach. These I've reached in with damp cloths and removed as best I can. I've run full, empty loads through hoping this would flush out any lingering bleach. Because the occurrences run intermittently from infrequently to frequently I cannot be sure if any of my attempts to remedy the problem are having any effect. I've guessed at the model # of the Kenmore top load washer we own since Dec of 1999

Sounds like some water is remaining in the tub after the pump gets done emptying the washer.
So its the pump!
The Kenmore Elite is a good washer and I believe worth fixing!
Unless the cost is half the price of the cost of a replacement.
