    Same problem, camera won't turn on error message, motor sounds weak.

The notor system has broken.
Contact Olympus support re repair.
Be warned of the camera is out of warranty the repair will cost nearly as much as buying another more upto date camera

Lens will not retract. orange and green lights come on, but preview screen remains dark and lens will not retract when I trun it off.
Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

Check the power source, make sure the battery is fully charged.

If you have another battery you can try that other battery and see if the lens is able to extend and retract properly.

Try to reset the camera through the menu. If that does not solve the issue then the camera would need to be sent into Olympus for repair service.

The lens won't retract
If the lens is stuck out extended you may want to call Olympus Customer Service to discuss repair process and pricing. If the battery is fully charged and the lens still stays extended then this is a clear repair issue as something in the lens assembly has failed. Their telephone number is 800-622-6372 option 2 and then option 3

Olympus FE-170 6.0 will not take pictures.
I had the same exact problem.The lens is not extending out fully or correctly, probably has broken or damaged gear or gears and needs to be replaced. Expensive repair done by Olympus. It is a very tricky and fragile repair on your own, requiring micro screwdrivers and soldering tool. I replaced my own lens but it was hard to find one.

Yep. another lens stuck.
i had this problem after putting it in a jug of bear (i know, i know...not so smart)...i washed the camera with a small amount of dishwashing detergent and a good rinse and it seemed to solve the problem for me....not sure if this is the recommended way of dealing with it though.

Lens won't come out
It sounds like the sensor that tells the camera weather the cover is open or closed has failed or come loose. This is a fairly common issue on cameras with the sliding lens covers. Our shop would charge around $50 in labor to fix this issue if it is that sensor. If a part was required it would be somewhere between $20 and $50 depending on what Olympus charges for the part. Lens wont retract, makes noises, error code on blue screen D:1E 1A
I posted the same problem on the 15th June and in the meantime I have been playing around with the camera. After holding the camera upside down and gently tapping the back of it, the lens decided to work and retract back into the camera. Not the most technical advice I know but it seemed to work.

same here, with my Camedia C-60 Zoom Apparently the motor has some problems. Did you take the camera to the beach? It must have caught sand or other kind of dirt in the lens mechanism. These digital cameras all have a fixed solution if they fail to work: they are meant to be thrown away. The people at Olympus also have mortgages going, don't they? Half a year ago it was already impossible to get parts for this camera, also, the memory sticks are not around any more, M-XD cards won't work with it, so, yeah, let's come to the Conclusion: this is intelligent (it can write out parts of machine code) landfill. UniRoss RC101296 - left side not working This model can charge up to 4 AA batteries. When the 4 batteries Ni-MH are when in place, two red led lights are 'ON' indicating that the batteries are charging. When the charging is complete, the red lights turn off. There is a red light for the two first batteries on the left 1 and a second one for the 2 batteries on the right. But for the batteries on the left side the red light 1 indicating 'charging' does not light up. I have tried to move the batteries slightly, there are on the correct polarity, but nothing seems to work. Any ideas..
