Kodak C743 When I turn the camera on the screen lights up but has no image. There is a black line that isn't straight horizontally across the screen.  There must be a fault in the screen. It didn't get wet and wasn't dropped.

Hello, On the C743 this will require that the LCD unit be replaced. This will get very costly real quick unless you can do it yourself. Not much more I can tell you.

Could be a problem with the LCD viewer screen, or, if not, could be the CCD image sensor go to bad; in both cases this isn't a job that you could solve yourself; this wrong include distorted images or abnormal colors, scratchy purple lines, blank or black pictures, and/or black videos with good sound being recorded on the camera's flash card.

I strongly suggest (taking into consideration the age of your camera) to evaluate the cost of repair versus the cost of a new camera with similar features, before making a final desicion.

You are correct. The LCD screen is broken. This is super common with the C743. It is unprotected and unlike most LCD's, there is no hard plastic or glass screen over the LCD. My wife broke my son's 1st 743 when she left it in her bag. My son broke the second one by packing it in his duffle bag for a summer camp trip.

You can spend about $40 for a replacement that will probably break again, move on to another camera or use this as a "green mode only" point and shoot camera just like the old days where you don't know what you got until you get home. You can still hook it up to your TV set to change the settings and review your pics, but that's all you are left with.

Color lines in the LCD display is caused by certain type of light connections. If you get all the time when you turn on the camera then the LCD panel is bad, would need to be replaced. Black lines in printed printed pictures from your printer or the Kodak dock station printer? If that's the case, then the transfer rollers are dirty and would need to checked or replaced. Also drivers could do this also. Report the problem to Kodak Live Chat Online Tech Rep or called on the LAN line (phone).

The LCD screen has gone bad, If the camera is less then one year old and youhave your receipt you can get it repaired under warranty. Go to the Kodak.com web site and fill out the form you will find under support.

I was told by a Kodak tech that the cameras are identical. The different numbers were a marketing thing.

Sounds like the image sensor is malfunctioning (common symptoms: distorted images with purple or green cast, completely dark images, flickering lines across the screen.)
